Functions
Organization and Talent Development
A key differentiator in performance
Learning Content Management
• Strategic value is placed on learning content
• Alignment of critical content across lines of the business and/or enterprise
• Course development time/cost is a consideration as is the agility and nimbleness
with which content can be changed to meet the changing needs of the business
System or Strategy?
Learning Content Management
We didn’t know what we didn’t know with respect to Learning Content
Management Systems, but we had an objective to align training across the
company. For us, this meant finding a way to facilitate collaborative authoring and
develop a single repository of our learning resources. This led us to pursuing a
Learning Content Management System as a key part of our overall strategy.
It is important to ensure content development needs are identified and well
understood in the context of any company’s overall learning strategy.
Benefits include
Learning Content Management Systems
• Provides opportunity to increase course development efficiencies through
automation of labour-intensive aspects and reuse of existing training materials
• Increases quality of training materials through use of training templates in multiple
formats and ability to publish training with interactive components
• Creates a single repository (common library) and facilitates easier content
updates – i.e. the learning function increases in agility
Warehouse vs Store
What is the difference between LCMS and LMS?
• LCMS automates aspects of development and management of learning content
and materials and LMS provides a platform for distribution and tracking

Collaborative Process
Learning Content Review
• Struggles early on with the “how” of collaborating on aligning our content…
• …Incorporated Learning Content Management as a key part of our strategy
• Assigned a strategy leader for Learning Content Management
• Selected a Learning Content Management System
• Implemented the LCMS which included configuration of course templates,
workflows and training for authorized users. Next steps include training for
content reviewers
• We are “live” with the LCMS and currently building and migrating content
• Extensive communication throughout the company about a shifting paradigm
regarding effective learning content management and its benefits
Our Change Process – to date…
