The Leader Newsline is published monthly to keep 4-H Club leaders informed of what
is going on in Iberia Parish 4-H. We will include new and old business clip outs for club
meetings, articles on upcoming events, information on the Agent monthly program, and
spotlight outstanding leaders in the parish. We would also like to use this newsletter as a
way for clubs to share ideas and inspire each other to make the best better. You or your
reporter can submit articles to share with other leaders. Please email them to Bethany at
[email protected] or Christy at [email protected].

Iberia Parish 4-H has many traditions when it comes to Service Learning and Community Service.
One of these traditions is collecting tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Again this year we will offer a
reward for the club that collects the most pounds of tabs. The Agents will pick up tabs at monthly
meetings and will keep track of the weight. We ask that tabs be in a ziplock bag and labeled with the
school’s name. The winning club will receive an award treat at their meeting in May.
Service Learning: Ronald McDonald House Pull Tab Contest
This year’s community service focus at the state level is bullying prevention. We encourage all clubs to participate
in one service project that involves bullying prevention this year. Examples include: Educating others about bullying and
how everyone has a role in preventing it, sponsor a Stop Bullying Carnival, poster or t-shirt contest, Acts of Kindness
Award (Ask youth to nominate their peers who they believe have played an effective role in preventing bullying. This
award would highlight the day to day actions of students who may often go unrecognized), bullying prevention 5K Race
or Fun Run, or even a positive rap contest. Please take pictures of your activities and send them to us so that we may
share what your club is doing on the local and state level. For more information visit http://www.stopbullying.gov!
National 4-H Week October 5-11
Paint the Town Green!
State Service Focus: Bullying Prevention
National 4-H week is a way for Iberia Parish 4-H clubs to promote the benefits of the 4-H program. National 4-H
Week is held during the first full week of October . It’s not too late to start planning club activites for National 4-H
Week. Maybe write a letter to the editor of the newspaper, telling how much you enjoy 4-H. Give administrators a
mini toy tractor with a note attached saying “You keep our wheels turning. Thanks for supporting 4-H!” Make cookies
for school faculty and staff, plant a flower garden at your school, or say the 4-H pledge during the morning announce-
ments. Many clubs have the financial resources to host an ice cream or popcorn social during lunch where current
members can invite a friend. The ideas are endless.
Have fun creating and doing the activities that promote Iberia Parish 4-H so well! We enjoy seeing pictures of club
activities for National 4-H Week. Be sure to encourage your club’s reporter to write an article and send them to the
different media outlets. This year there will be a “Paint the Town Green Contest”. The club that is the most active for
4-H Week will win 100 points to go towards their Best Club Book. The contest application is at the end of this month’s
Leader Newsline.

The Mystery of the Best Club Book: Explained For many leaders, the Best Club Book still remains a mystery as to how it incorporates into the club. Let us explain.
The Best club book is used to organize all club activities and member accomplishments. Your club accumulates points
throughout the school year for activities and meeting scores, as well as participation in parish wide events.
On the back of the best club book is the Organizational Leader Report. We kindly as that you list all enrolled club
members (you may copy this chart if you have a larger club) and check off each time a member completes a task on
the chart. This chart is VERY important to the Iberia 4-H program, as we use this to report to the State 4-H Office.
Best club books are turned in by Achievement Day in April. Accumulated points are tallied at Achievement Day and
the Best Club Awards are announced at the end of Achievement Day.
Officer Training will take place on October 7, 2014 at IMS. Registration will begin at 4:30 followed by Executive
Committee elections, officer and leader breakout sessions, and a mock meeting. Please encourage your officers to
attend this import meeting where they will learn how a 4-H business meeting should be conducted and feel more
confident in their role as a 4-H officer. In the break out session for leaders, we will discuss the club year and the re-
sources available to help you oversee the operation of the club and coordinate activities.
The Executive Committee members will be elected during this training. The Executive Committee plans and con-
ducts Achievement Day in addition to other duties parish wide. Each school may nominate three 4-H members to
campaign for the committee. At Officer Training, those running for an office should come prepared with a catchy
speech (up to 2 minutes in length) to let the voting delegates know why they would be best suited for this com-
mittee.
Each school is also asked to have two voting delegates at the training. Please send your nominations to Ms.
Christy or Ms. Bethany by October 1st. The nomination sheet is attached in the September Leader Email along with
this Leader Newsline and the Clover Chatter.

service projects. We encourage club leaders to reach out to possible volunteers to help with the growth of their club.

offers Volunteer trainings on an as needed basis within the parish. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need
help training volunteers for specific tasks on the school or parish level.

Your child has expressed an interest to join 4-H, the largest youth develop-
ment organization in the world. In order to join, you must turn in a completed
4-H enrollment card along with $_______ dues by___________________. Dues
and the enrollment card are to be turned in to the 4-H Leader at school. Your
child’s 4-H Leader is ________________________.
For more information about 4-H, please see the handout your child received
at their first meeting entitled, “So Your Child Wants to Join Iberia 4-H,” contact
the Iberia 4-H Office at 369-4440 or see the Louisiana 4-H website at
www.lsuagcenter.com or www.4-h.org. You can also follow the Iberia Parish 4-H
program on Facebook.
I look forward to you child joining 4-H this school year. There are many fun
events planned, and I would like your child to be a part of it.

Enrollment Meetings
As a 4-H Leader, we are counting on you to make announcements to students and to ar-
range a place for our 4-H meeting at your school each month. As always, we will present an
overview of the 4-H Youth Development Program to potential 4-H'ers at our September
meetings. We invite all interested youth to attend and find out what 4-H has to offer.
Enrollment Fees/Dues
At the meeting, each child will be given an enrollment card to take home to their parents.
Parish dues are $5.00 per member. Please, let us know if there are any members wanting to
join who may not be able to pay. You may choose to set your dues at a higher amount, and
keep some in your club treasury for club expenses.
Deadlines
September 30th is the deadline for students to get their enrollment cards and dues to
you. Our 1st call for completed Enrollment Cards is September 30th. However, don’t send us
dues until October. Dues and any other enrollment cards that come in after September 30th
are to be turned in by October 24th. This will eliminate your school having to write two
checks.
Once a child turns in a completed card to you, you may wish to make a copy of the enroll-
ment cards. This would be your record of your enrollment.
We should encourage all students to enroll by September 30th. This would enable them
to:
1. Run for an office
2. Get their project books in October
In the event a child is absent from school the day of the meeting and misses September
18th, the Final Call for Enrollment Cards is November 1st.
We do have an open enrollment policy allowing members to join at any time throughout
the year, but encourage members to sign up at the beginning of the year. If during the year
students transfer schools, please work with them to get them enrolled, even if it is after the
enrollment deadline.
We hope you all had a safe and happy summer and are all geared up for a brand new
school year. We're delighted with the fact that a 4-H Club will be in your school and that you
have volunteered to serve as a 4-H Leader!
We are looking forward to a very productive year and hope you are, too. Please feel free
to call us at any time if questions arise. Our number at the 4-H office is 369-4440.
