iARTSMAASTRICHT
sustainable world where crossovers between science, society, culture and entrepreneurship
lead to a different future state. That is why iArts calls for analytically sharp
and creative minds that are aware of the fact that their future is made today and that they can be part of a population shaping it. Learning how to do that, based on your personal fascination and drive, is what iArts does. Together with your
fellow students, experts, artists, scientist and many professional
parties involved you will shape your learning journey.
In a world that is changing every minute and getting more complex by the day, the need for critically engaged talents and creative thinkers is bigger than ever. The problems we face and the opportunities we see require a different approach. Old models seem to be broken and traditional programs do not cut it anymore if it comes to developing. We need fresh thinking, the courage to try and combine new methods andstrategies with an artistic view in order to learn how to build a truly

iARTS IN SHORT
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
iArts believes that learning should be an adventure full of discoveries, inspirational combinations of theory and practice. We love action learning! You will find yourself immersed in our real-life projects, often executed in collaboration with engaged third parties outside of the academy. The world cannot be captured or changed in a classroom or studio alone. You will train relevant skills and important competences in our Maastricht based studios at Zuyd, but whenever there is a possibility to organise a bootcamp or workshop at a more suitable or exiting place, we will go for the
external alternative. You will learn a wide range of skills like artistic research, concept development, visual language, creative writing, basic technical and digital know-how, basically all skills that support your project work. You will also discover what your personal and professional development requires further. And you will develop meta-skills linked to research, transforming that research into ideas and concepts, team work, entrepreneurial methods and strategies to help you getting your work and projects done, financed and promoted to relevant audiences and stakeholders.

WORKFIELD
‘‘We got a chance to catch up with Abel Enklaar, an iArts Alumni who graduated in 2017 by setting up his own art practice Studio Enklaar. From ‘sleepless nights, worrying about bills that needed to be paid’ to a ‘luxurious one month long residency at toneelgroep Maastricht’ read on to learn what he has been up to since leaving iArts. “I graduated with setting up my own ‘in-disciplinary’ art studio ‘Studio Enklaar’. Studio Enklaar explores ways in which new media technologies can be used to tell stories, craft the language of new media theatre and analyse the role of technology within society. With this we aim to dissect the politics of technology. Since then I have been developing the studio. I’ve performed small pieces at festivals like the ‘WinterNights’ festival in Maastricht and at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival. “ Written and interviewed by Holly Hudson Taylor 2nd year iArts student for the iArts Newsletter.
ALUMNA
‘‘I am interested in people, the communication and connection amongst peo-ple. We tell stories with our bodies and minds. We live our personal truths, within the realms of what we understand as reality.
