< Possibility on radiation exposure (As of 10:30 March 21st) >(1) Including the about 60 evacuees from Futaba Public Welfare Hospital to

Nihonmatsu City Fukushima Gender Equality Centre, as the result ofmeasurement of 133 persons at the Centre, 23 persons counted morethan 13,000 cpm were decontaminated.

    (2) The 35 residents transferred from Futaba Public Welfare Hospital toKawamata Town Saiseikai Kawamata Hospital by private bus arrangedby Fukushima Prefecture were judged to be not contaminated by thePrefectural Response Centre.

    (3) As for the about 10 0 residents in Futaba Town evacuated by bus, theresults of measurement for 9 of the 100 residents were as follows. Theevacuees, moving outside the Prefecture (Miyagi Prefecture), weredivided into two groups, which joined later to Nihonmatsu CityFukushima Gender Equality Centre.

News Releasethe level below 6,000 cpm and 41 people were at the level of 6,000 cpm ormore. When the reference value was increased to 13,000 cpm afterward,8 people were at the level below 13,000 cpm and 3 people are at the levelof 13,000 cpm or more.

The 5 out of 162 people examined were transported to hospital afterbeing decontaminated.

    (5) The Fukushima Prefecture carried out the evacuation of patients andpersonnel of the hospitals located within 10km area. The screening of allthe members showed that 3 persons have the high counting rate. Thesemembers were transported to the secondary medical institute ofexposure. As a result of the screening on 60 fire fighting personnelinvolved in the transportation activities, the radioactivity higher thantwice of the back ground was detected on 3 members. Therefore, all the60 members were decontaminated.

    (1) As for the 18 workers conducting operations in Fukushima Dai-ichi NPS,

results of measurements are as follows; One worker: At the level of exposure as 106.3 mSv, no risk of internal

exposure and no medical treatment required.Other workers: At the level of no risk for health but concrete numerical

value is unknown.(2) As for the 7 people working at the time of explosion at around the Unit 3

of Fukushima Dai-ichi NPS who were injured and conscious, 6 out of 7people were decontaminated by an industrial doctor of the clinic inFukushima Dai-ni NPS, and confirmed to have no risk. The other one ishaving a medical treatment at the clinic after decontaminated.

    (1) Fukushima Prefecture has started the screening from 13 March. It is

carried out by rotating the evacuation sites and at the 12 places (set uppermanently) such as health offices. The results of screening are beingtotalled up.

Subject: Status of the Fukushims Dallchl nuclear power plantThe Incident an d Emergency Centre (IEC) is continuing to monitor the status of the nuclear power plants inJapan following the earthquake.Based on information received by 5:00 UT C on Marl 21, 2011 the following updated information for the reactorunits at the Fukushima Dalichi Nuclear Power Plant is provided:

Radiation Monitoring DataOff-Site Environmental Radiation MeasurementsDose rates have been provided by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science an d Technologyfor all 47 prefectures (excluding Fukushima). The data set covers the period from 15 March 08:00UTC to 20 March 08:00 UTC.A new update for the environmental measurements carried out at various locations in Fukushimaprefecture has been provided (see the map below). There are no significant changes to report, except to note that environmental radiation measurements were somewhat elevated in the north ofFukushima prefecture outside of the 30 km exclusion zone.

Detailed radiation monitoring In cities in the Fukushima prefecture has been updated (now rangingfrom 15:00 UTC March 1 7 h to 08:31 UTC March 20"). Results are consistent with previously reportedradiation measurements. Th e highest detected values are inFukushima city.Radioactivity In food, milk and drinking waterSince the status note of 20 March 04:00 UTC, the IAEA hasirceived further information from theJapanese Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare and prefectural authorities regarding the presence ofradioactivity in milk, drinking water and vegetables. The data were based on laboratory analysis ofsamples taken over the last three days from different areas. The results of some samples were abovethe limits specified in the Japanese food hygiene law for emergency monitoring criteria for intake ofvegetables. Those limits are:

    Nuclide 1-131 Cs-137Drinking water and Milk 300 200Vegetables 2000 500

In Fukushima prefecture four milk samples and one drinking water sample had shown concentrationof Iodine 131 in excess of the limits. In Ibarald and Tochigi both 1-131 and Cs-137 were detected inspinach samples and the concentration was Insome of these samples above the limits. Theconcentration values vary considerably among the samples and range from a few hundreds to a fewthousands Bqfg.DeposiMon Data for PrefecturesMEXT has published deposition data for all prefectures (excluding Fukushima) for 1-131 and Cs-137 covering the period March 18 and 19. Deposition over a 24 hour period was measured atwhat is assumed to be a single monitoring location. Most prefectures report no detection of eitherCs-I 37 or 1-131 deposition, however, eight prefectures did report detectable 1-131 or Cs-1 37.Depositions range from a few tens to a few hundreds of Mbq/km2, with one exception: the March18 measurement of 1-131 in Tochigi that measured 1300 MBq/km2. This value is less than default
