Leadership  Volunteer  Criteria  2014-­‐2015  

IABC’s   chapter   survival   and   vibrancy   hinges   on   quality   and   commi@ed   volunteer  leaders.   In   keeping   with   IABC   philosophy   of   learning   through   meaningful  connecHons,   sharing   and   exchange,   a   new   set   of   guidelines   has   been   defined   to  encourage  quality  volunteering  and  create  value.  

Volunteer  Leaders:  •  are  paying  members.  •  have  commi@ed  to  leading  collaboraHvely  in  any  two  (2)  quarters  of  program  

acHvity  planning  and  execuHon  in  the  year,  adhering  to  this  Leadership  Charter  and  Values.  

•  May  assume  either  or  both  operaHonal  and  program  responsibiliHes  in  small  manageable  scope  of  work,  as  defined  by  professional  interest  and  board  planning.  

•  Are  part  of  the  named  board  leadership  that  shapes,  drives  and  manages  the  chapter,  parHcipaHng  in  board  discussions  and  decisions.  

•  Helps  to  recruit  ad-­‐hoc  volunteers  when  necessary  •  Will  need  board  consensus  if  joining  a^er  Q0  (planning  period  over  summer  

following  AGM  and  leadership  elecHons  preceding  Q1  program  calendar  launch)  •  Benefits:  grants  or  subsidies  to  a@end  regional  or  global  conferences  and  paying  

webinars,  endorsements/referrals  from  fellow  leaders,  testbed  for  a    development  or  entrepreneurial  idea  and  content,  opportunity  to  hone  different  skills,  recogniHon  in  shared  board  successes.  

 

Ad-­‐Hoc  Volunteers:  •  May  be  members  and  non-­‐members  who’d  like  to  get  to  know  IABC  •  Commits  to  a  short,  specific  task  or  project  as  required  and  agreed  by  a  board  

leader  •  Benefits:  get  familiar  with  IABC  workings,  learn  something  concrete,  deepen  

connecHons  with  board  leaders,  benefit  from  an  acHvity  discount  or  Hcket  waiver,  get  close  and  personal  with  a  diverse  internaHonal  community  of  like-­‐minded  and  approachable  professionals.

Help   business   communicators   realize   their   potenHal   and   advocate   the  profession’s  role  in  sustaining  organizaHonal  value  and  posiHve  business  impact.  

Deliver  accessible  professional  development  opportuniHes  for  meaningful  connecHons   and   pracHcal   learning,   aligned   to   the   IABC  Global   Standards   and  Core  Principles,  by  creaHng  program  and  volunteering  value  for  members.  

 •  ConnecHng  meaningfully,  gedng  to  know  members  and  non-­‐members  we  don’t  

really  know;    •  Listening  to  build  win-­‐win  value  for  members  and  ourselves  as  volunteer  leaders  •  Being  ‘CRISPA’  leaders
