This booklet contains important information to help you plan your travel around central London on Sunday 6 August. Your location has been identified as being significantly impacted so we want to ensure that you are aware of the date and offer to help with your planning.
The marathon is a key event in the IAAF World Championships’, which take place between Friday 4 and Sunday 13 August
2017. Whilst majority of events are taking place at the London Stadium Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, the marathon
will be staged on the streets of central London on Sunday 6 August. The Championships are the second of two major events
being staged as part of the Summer of World Athletics, starting with the World Para Athletics Championships 14-23 July 2017.
More than 3,000 athletes from 200 nations will have competed at the London Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park by the
end of both Championships – undoubtedly the biggest event to be held at the iconic venue since the London 2012 Olympic and
Paralympic Games.
EVENTS ON SuNDAy 6 AuGuSTThe marathon provides a great opportunity for a free-to-view event and a chance to see some of the world’s best athletes take to
London’s streets to become World Champion. But we also understand that there may be some disruption to your day and your
journeys within central London may be affected by road closures and increased traffic around the event footprint.
EVENTS ON SuNDAy 13 AuGuSTThe following Sunday, the Festival of Race Walks will take place on The Mall. This offers another free to view event on the final
day of the Championships. Road closures for this event will be less impactful with the roads around St James’s Park and Green
Park being closed. The Mall is usually closed on Sundays.
