I think I can. Do you?

If you THINK YOU CAN and it falls it the forest and nobody hears it, Does it still make a noise? I think I can, I think I can I think I can, I KNOW I CAN ! ... but NO ONE ELSE apparently feels the same way. I THINK it's time the job makers and shakers did some affirmations for believing in someone who NEEDS A JOB and will work hard for them. Friends and recruitment sites send me such affirmations ten times a day, it occurred to me that what started out as something positive has become another engine pushing more propaganda that it's OUR problem, our lack of faith, confidence, effort or skill stopping us from getting the job or the dream. Not that we all can't continue to do more and better, BUT, what it says in reverse to employers is that If you were rejected well then you just didn't try hard enough, you weren't confident and dynamic enough at the interview, you didn't 'Believe' enough and now Tinkerbell didn't come back to life and bestow upon you the job. What's so diabolically bad about this philosophy today is that it is set exactly in opposition to the mentality of companies who believe in massive downsizing and not rehiring, employment agencies who deny access, Online Job Posts most of which as stated by the Unemployment Agency DO NOT EXIST. Business and job sites purchase huge lots of space which they must fill up with something? like jobs companies must post but have no intention of filling, and the latest and most merciless guardian of the gates, HR software which I'm sure weeds out age and credit reports like I suspect Publishers Clearing House does to those who never order anything in spite of all those letters I get saying I have the winning numbers. Now even the agencies who wouldn't see you are out of work themselves. Why pay someone to post a single ad and have to reject thousands of people for a job they're probably never going to fill anyway when they can have a computer program do it.

IN SHORT, the smaller the supply of miracles the more we are told we must believe, and when we aren't able to stand, when we don't get the job over and over again, the implication is that we were lacking in faith rather than the system is a false god. The shining light of this era is Entrepreneurialism; once a difficult and obscure road less traveled, today perhaps the only clear path leading out of the woods and for our own greater good.

The truth is we all believe in ourselves with more passion and pride than anyone would ever admit, until the rest of the world tells us otherwise, or by the 'sound of silence'. I've taken journeys one step at a time. I care about other people but I don't care what other people think about me. I hold my breath and expect great things each day. I KNOW I deserve some of them. I will NEVER STOP trying but the OTHER TRUTH is that unless I live in a vacuum or hit the lottery, even then, what I strive for at some point relies on at least one other person who believes in me. NO we can't stop BELIEVING, because that literally is ALL we have. HOPE will get you through today, therein lies your sweet spot, your home. But NONE of it means we still won't have our hearts and spirit broken, we'll just hope they won't be again tomorrow.
