ST LOUIS, MISSOURI – Christopher Saunders recently presented a paper at a p res t ig ious journa l i sm and mass communication conference and not only advanced research in social media uses and picked up a top paper award but also became the first Bahamian to present at the yearly conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). The paper Mr. Saunders presented was entitled: “’What are you talking about’ Differences in Twit ter Uses and Gratification Between Black and White Twitter Users.” The paper, which he was t he l e ad au tho r w i th two o the r investigators, explored the differences between Blacks and Whites in their motivations to use Twitter and patterns of using this site. The former senior sports reporter at The Broadcasting Corporation of the Bahamas (ZNS) is now studying for his master's degree at the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism where the first master's degree in journalism ever awarded in the field was presented in 1921. His professional practice focus is on TV anchoring, producing and reporting of both sports and news at the school TV lab

KOMU-8. KOMU is t h e o n l y university-o w n e d commercial te levis ion station in the United States that u s e s i t s newsroom as a work-ing lab for students. On the academic side his research is focused on disaster communication during hurricanes, specifically in the Bahamas and social media uses and motivations across race, gender and social lines. The paper also won second place faculty paper in the Minorities and Communica-tion division. The paper was entered in the faculty division because the third author on the paper was Missouri School of Journalism Associate Professor Dr. Cynthia Frisby. Dr. Saleem Alhabash was the second author while he a doctoral student at the Missouri School of Journalism as well. Dr. Frisby said this type of research is important to

understanding how Twitter users and other social network users present themselves online. “The potential for the Internet to allow us to create identities, feel empowered, and share thoughts and opinions is an avenue of research that we must continue to study,” she said. “This study found interesting ethnic differences in the use of Twitter. Although stereotypes of the Twitter user may exist, increasing numbers of African-Americans are effectively using the Internet, and not in the same ways that members of the majority population do. African-Americans are more likely, it seems, to use the Internet for identity development or impression management.” Mr. Saunders received his Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Paul Quinn College in 2007. He was Editor-in-chief, sports editor and design editor of the school’s award winning newspaper The Quinn Quill. While at Paul Quinn he was also involved in the National Association of Black Journalists, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Honda Bowl, Student Government and the International Students Organization.

HOW TO RECEIVE A $100,000 COLLEGE GRANT!

If someone told you there was a better way to plan for a student’s college education, would you do it? Yes, of course! But, if you ask parents of college-bound students what their plan is for navigating the college process you’ll usually hear, “We don’t have a plan.” HOW TO SOLVE THE COLLEGE FUNDING DILEMMA!!! Funding for college comes from three basic sources – the federal government, the institution itself, and the private sector, where there are large sums of capital available for those who have access to the private sources. This is where our primary focus lies. Also, there are two basic types of funding – gift aid (money that does not have to be repaid), and self-help aid (money that is either worked for or borrowed). Gift aid is commonly in the form of scholarships, grants, endowments, and tuition discounts. Let’s discuss money that does not have to be repaid which are called grants. What are Grants? Grants are potentially a meaningful source of funds for many kinds of projects and groups, and applying for them can be a source of great hope and excitement. At the same time, few subjects in nonprofit management are surrounded by such dread and mystery.Instead, grants are donations of money given to charitable (501c3) nonprofit organizations and public agencies in order to meet specific, agreed-upon goals. Grants may come from charitable foundations, corporations, service clubs, or government agencies. They take time to apply for and receive – often up to12 months between application and, if approved, delivery of the money. Grants are most often given away by “Private Sources” and small, local foundations that care about local citizen efforts. It makes sense to see a grant as a fair deal between colleagues whose interests are similar, but whose resources are different. Private Sources, Foundations and other grant makers are organizations like your nonprofit or school. They have missions and goals just like you do. When a funder awards you a grant, they are doing so because what you plan to do with the money fits in with their own goals, initiatives, and dreams, and often with their founder's stated wishes. WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE A GRANT CONSULTANT - Hiring a Grant Consultant, who specializes in securing the capital needed for college funding is important if you’re serious about funding your child’s education, in the least expensive way. MCS Grant Consultants, a division of MCS Consultants, will show you how you can obtain a $100,000 grant for the purpose of college funding. For most parents, sending their children to college is one of the five (5) largest expenditures they will ever face in their lives. MCS gives families of all income levels and opportunity to raise the capital to finance their child’s education. MCS Consultants offers a unique opportunity to parents wanting access to our special Private funding sources. Our Private funding partner’s specialty is raising large sums of money for the purpose of offering grants for college funding and for churches and small businesses who don’t qualify for conventional bank financing.

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR A $100,000 GRANT --The great thing about grants is that you don’t have to pay back the money you received. However, there are administrative costs associated with receiving a grant. Countless hours are spent contacting our capital affiliates and private sources in to obtain a grant. Our grant facilitators also have families and must be compensated for their work.

In order to provide the service of obtaining a $100,000 grant, MCS will only accept up to 100 applicants per calendar quarter. By restricting the amount of applications to 100, this allows our grant facilitators too spend the appropriate time necessary in obtaining the grant.

In order to successfully obtain a $100,000 grant, there is a one-time required payment of $4,000. The time involved for obtaining a $100,000 grant in most cases is six (6) months. In rare occasions the time-frame will be extended to an additional six (6) months. However, if the $100,000 grant is not obtained within 12 months from the date stated in the Memorandum of Understanding, the $4,000 will be immediately returned, in addition to a non-performance fee of 12% interest.

NO STRINGS ATTACHED -- Although this program was designed to assist parents who are not wealthy, and who desperately need help in getting their children through college, there are no strings attached to the $100,000 grant. In other words, if a situation arises where the potential college student for whatever reason decides not to attend college, the $100,000 will still be awarded to the parent(s).

There have been instances in the past where the student decided to pursue a career in the armed forces, or another career objective. Regardless, the parents or the grant sponsor is still entitled to the $100,000. This is stated in the Memorandum of Understanding. The $100,000 can be used to supplement retirement or for any another purpose the client chooses. There is no other college funding consultant company is the U.S. that has the ability to raise the amount of capital we can raise in a short amount of time. Our Private partners are exactly that “Private.” And their method of raising large sums of capital is proprietary in nature.

$ PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE $

MCS makes this guarantee. At the end of the contract period, if MCS Grant Consultants has failed to provide a grant worth $100,000 in cash, MCS will refund 100% of the consultation fee, in addition to another 12% added to the paid fee. You have absolutely nothing to lose and $100,000 to gain by hiring MCS.

We work with families that want to protect their assets and secure as much of their money for their senior years.

Get started on securing a $100,000 grant for your child or grand-child’s college education, by CALLING 972 572 0088 to receive an application.

decorating shirts and hats to give to men and women in the Fair Park Nursing Home; the ladies of the Priscilla Art Club are concerned about civic and social uplift and committed to helping “others on their way” and emulating the “divine joy of living.” It was a joyous occasion as the members celebrated their centennial at the Adolphus Hotel. Talk about a celebration! Led by the beautiful, charming and dynamic Mistress of Ceremony Bernice J. Washington, the lavish affair was so much fun as she moved the program along with a flavor unparalleled. Mrs. Washington has to be one of the best speakers living! Throughout the program, it was heartwarming to hear the ladies, under the leadership of President Shirley A. Porter Ware, talk about the significant contributions of the Priscilla Art Club and the bond they have with one another. The efforts of the organization have not gone unnoticed as State Representative Barbara Mallory Caraway, State Sen. Royce West, Garland Mayor Ronald Jones and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings praised the members for “A Century of Sisterhood and Service.” It was also a special occasion for retired teacher and Prairie View A&M alum Leatha Evans, who was honored for 25 years of service. The Priscilla Art Club is about quality, not quantity; sisterhood and service, not styling and profiling. It’s also important to note that the members of this organization also belong to a number of other organizations. So while you have people spending their days doing nothing for anybody but themselves, you have these ladies doing way more than their share to make this world a better place.

The Browns were there and remember the great acts of humanity from complete strangers.

BOWL FOR KIDS SAKE!

Business executive Eric Brown’s picture should be in the dictionary next to the phrase “self-actualized.” Even though he has always exuded confidence and a swagger that was backed by knowledge and experience; if there ever was any doubt in his mind about where his focus should be, September 11, 2001 surely put things into perspective. On that fateful day 10 years ago, Eric and his wife Renee, along with the Pro-Line International sales and marketing team, were on a business trip in New York. Little did they know that they, along with about

17,000 others who were reported to be in the World Trade Center Complex, would face some serious challenges. At times they wondered if they would make it back home to Dallas. That day gave real meaning to the phrase “all hell broke lose.” There were sirens and total chaos as it became evident that they needed to leave their hotel room immediately. When they took to the streets, after walking down nearly 30 flights of stairs, Renee was wearing her bathrobe, and the ever-efficient Eric had grabbed their laptops. Thinking they would be returning shortly he didn’t want to take a chance on someone entering the room and making off with the computers. During a recent interview, Eric said that they had no idea what was happening as they evacuated their hotel, the World Trade Center Marriott. He had no idea that America “was under attack.” According to reports, four hijacked planes struck fear in Americans and took the lives of thousands in yet another terrorist assault, and a decade later we are still dealing with the after effects. Early that morning, two airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, another went down in Arlington, Va., hitting

the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania passengers valiant effort averted the flight that was set to hit the nation’s capitol. Still today there are conflicting numbers in various reports that include deaths related to the attacks and subsequently the effects from inhaling dust from the attacks. It was like a nightmare, many say. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, said Renee, they found safety and she was able to get her medication and eventually make it home to Dallas.

Today the two Johnson Products Company executives say they will never forget their experience and the people who reached out to help during a serious crisis. After their ordeal, sweating the “small things” is not something you’ll find this power couple doing. They know what it is like to experience a major convenience so the minor day-to-day issues that cause many folks to realize a spike in their blood pressure, barely register with the Browns. No road rage, dealing with bad attitudes or rolling of the eyes for them. They know that many did not make it out alive and some who did are still traumatized so they are not wasting their time on this earth majoring in the minors. The Browns are continuing the work they were doing before September 11, 2001. When they are not taking care of the business of Johnson Products Company; they are donating their time, resources and support to make this world a better place. Whether it’s the UNCF, domestic violence awareness, the arts or business organizations, the Browns know what is important; and as we continue to heal from that vicious attack, we have so much to give thanks for and the Browns are on that list!
