Message to the People...

Wrong rapist, still good newsTalk about excited! When I read the headline that a suspected serial rapist had been apprehended, I breathed a

heavy sigh, thinking that Pookie had finally been caught. When I looked at the picture, I exclaimed, “That’s not Pookie!”Well, it seems there’s another serial rapist out there. Earlier this month, 33-year-old Fernando

Munoz was arrested on a burglary charge and Dallas police “believe” he is a fit for four sexual offenses that occurred in East Dallas, as recently as last month and as far back as 2008.

To our knowledge, since 2010, Pookie has been wreaking havoc -- attempting to destroy lives -- breaking into homes and raping women.

Pookie is described as a black male, in his late 30s to mid-40s, 5-foot-7 to 6 feet tall and weighing 250-300 lbs. Police say that he may have a thin, well-trimmed beard with a short haircut, possibly with a receding hairline or balding. The sorority members have been in their 50s or 60s.

While the attacks took place in Plano, Coppell and Corinth between the hours of 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., police also say they are not ruling out the possibility of Pookie changing up his pattern or even changing his targets.

No one is safe from a rapist! Me today, tomorrow it could be your sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, cousin or child! So, for well over a year, since I was first alerted that a man was targeting members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in

North Texas; I have hosted radio shows, moderated panel discussions and continued to write about the culprit. Additionally I challenged other media outlets, the clergy, men’s and women’s groups, and organizations to speak out and

put this rapist on blast. To say that I became unpopular in some groups would be an understatement. Still, I continued speaking out-- not because

I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta, but because it was the right thing to do. Someone needed to speak out for the survivors. Then too, over the years it has been a pattern for me to write about and discuss injustices, abuses and issues involving the

disenfranchised, downtrodden and overlooked.I didn’t see a reason to stop and I still don’t. The rapist, who I dubbed “Pookie” needed to have his face plastered in churches, on signs and anywhere else possible to

let him know that what he was doing was unacceptable.Still many remained silent, but there was hope when a few local journalists tried to keep the story alive, despite the case

getting colder and colder. CW 33‘s Giselle Phelps, NBC’s Randy McIlwain, WFAA’s Debbie Denmon and Dallas Morning News’ Selwyn Crawford were a few who did what journalists are supposed to do; and the Elite News ran Pookie’s face on the front cover, along with a story where members of the clergy spoke out.

Scott Goldstein of the Morning News wrote about Pookie and Munoz. America’s Most Wanted featured Pookie. It was encouraging to hear that CrimeStoppers was offering a $5000 reward-- a figure has remained the same for over a

year. Also Defendants Friends, described as ‘finding justice in America,” posted a $100,000 reward for the “capture of the sorority rapist.”

Then Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (US-TX) begin speaking out and hosted a community forum-- bringing in law enforcement, District Attorney Craig Watkins, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, women’s groups, psychologists and advocates to discuss the rapist and violence against women.

Most recently Mayor Rawlings announced the Ten Thousand Man Rally Against Domestic Abuse, scheduled for 10:00a.m. on March 23 at Dallas City Hall (see www.dallasmenagainstabuse.com

Whether you know the culprit or not, violence against women should not be tolerated. Rape is a form of domestic violence and we must call it what it is.

Dr. Julianne Malveaux, former president of Bennett College, has been vocal about apprehending Pookie and her support of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

She is not alone. “The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) has historically provided a vast network of support for victims of domestic

violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking since its initial passage in 1994,” said Congresswoman Johnson. “The Senate-passed version of the VAWA reauthorization is the result of extensive deliberation and consultation with real victims of violence, law enforcement personnel, and outside organizations that specialize in combating domestic violence and abuse. I was proud to support the Senate version, and pleased that this Congress voted to pass S. 47.”

The NAACP issued a statement.“Women across the country have come to depend on the services and protections offered by the Violence Against Women

Act,” said NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “At a time when so many extremist politicians are seeking to roll back decades of hard-won protections and rights, this renewal is an important victory.”

“The reauthorization of the VAWA ensures a continuation of vital, lifesaving programs and protections,” said Hilary Shelton, Senior Vice President for Policy and Advocacy and Director of NAACP’s Washington Bureau. “NAACP supported the passage of the VAWA in 1994, and its reauthorization in 2000 and 2005, and has seen the VAWA improve the landscape for victims in the United States who once suffered in silence. Victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking have now been able to access services, and a new generation of families and justice system professionals have come to understand that domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking are crimes that our society will no longer tolerate.”

Pookie and Munoz are not the lone perpetrators. So many women are being victimized. Now, what do you have to say?

A HIGHWAY TO FREEDOMTHE QUEST FOR PEACE

As we stand here today,At the crossroads of freedom and equality,

The celebration of the emancipation proclamation must not become a novelty.

That great march was the start,To engage a nations heart,

To pull back the veil of discrimination and oppression

And to cease and release the rights of a people,

And honor our Declarations intended predilections.

And though we have lived to beholdA man of color residing in our countries most

prestigious house,There is still so much work to do,

We must remain vigilant and persistent,Of this there can be no doubt.

His coming was the hailing of an inspired notion,

That we can be what we choose when motivated by devotion.

He exemplifies that we are not separate and often more than equal,

His second term in office is a historic sequel. We must strive to bring liberation through

education. We must teach our sons and daughters

To look beyond their situations.Let us inspire them to nurture and caress their

dreams,For then shall we all be able to lift our voices

and sing.Like Martin we must live our dreams,

Like Malcolm we must do what is necessary,Like Medgar we need to have the courage

To not let our voices be buried.Let us unite and work to bring calm

To the chaos in our streets,For then and only then

Shall we know the majestyOf that elusive jewel known as peace.

In a letter to Tod Robberson, Edna Pemberton of Dallas wrote: I take issue with your March 3rd article on "Loyalty to Democrats is getting southern residents nothing and nowhere."

I am offended that you feel that you have the recipe for development in the Oak Cliff community. It's simply about MONEY!!!!!! The Oak Cliff community does not have the investors lined up to assist the community in developing our community... we have plans, ideas, and developers (without funds). You know that because you have been writing about it in your Bridging the Gap articles....

Since you don't know our history...you don't have the right to tell our story or choose our leaders!!! We are not senseless voters.......

Let's be for real, our Black elected officials are good with what they have and with whom to work. They must be careful in assisting so that they don't look like they are favoring any one group. The initial solution is the community. The urban community must rise up and give leadership to their future.

In other communities, that is how it works...the elected officials don't dictate to the voters what's good for them...it's grass root partnership with the elected officials....and you know that!!!!

You seemed to believe that we need to change leadership to get different results....WRONG. Let me state some facts to you:

Most of your Dallas leadership (today and that are doing great things) came out of the Tuesday afternoon luncheon held weekly by Commissioner J.W. Price late 80's to early 90's. He realized that we needed a network to learn and disseminate information to each other. That is where I met Dr. Brooks (Urban League, now) and Ms. Lorraine Greene Lee of DART that helped the community and me to write a proposal to established the first cross town bus route (1987...Loop 12) so that people did not have to go downtown to transfer to come to Oak Cliff..thank you, Commissioner Price and Dr. Brooks. The Black & Brown Conference came out of that network luncheon. Let's move on.

When KMart was in the process of closing the I 35 Ledbetter Location..it was US Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Commissioner Price, Betty Culbreath, Councilman Al Lipscomb, Dianne Gibson, Winsor Barbee, Jesse Barbee, Dr. Pastor E.K. Bailey and others that kept the

store opened for another 5 years by engaging with conversation with the corporate giant and challenging the community to support local retail. Let's continue on the journey....

You talked about Pastors:1990 (deceased Pastor Bailey) Concord Church: partnered

with Councilwoman Ragsdale during the Rochester Park flood of 1990 for the first ever clothes giveaway. Thank you Concord Church and Councilwoman Ragsdale. Let's continue on the journey. In 1990 a Young lady (24 yrs.) was raped, beaten up and paralyzed. Senator West, Councilman Lipscomb, DMPT Ragsdale, and Pastor Bailey led the community effort in crime prevention marches(first ever "Mothers March Against Crime) and the Teen Curfew ordnance (they helped us to write it..and went to court...and won)..let continue....

2006/2007- First ever Sexual Orientated Business proposal stopped by elected officials.West, Davis, Atkins, Caraway, Concord, Friendship-West, Pastor Haynes, Potters House Church, Elder Ray Orr-Christian Chamber of Commerce and the community.

Southwest Center Mall (2009 -on verge of closing....you wrote about it) BUT remains opened because of DMPT Atkins, US Congresswoman Johnson, Senator West, Rep. Davis, Rep. Giddings, the mayor and all city council members, Commissioner Price, Pastor Tommy Brown, neighborhood associatins and many others,

As a part of the Mayor Rawlings Grow South, we are engaged with DMPT Atkins, US Congresswoman Johnson and others to rebuild the Camp Wisdom Corridor....

Now back to your concern about political candidates in the Black Community....The better question to ask the Democrat Party is where is the outreach work on getting younger viable political candidates participation.....??

Should we be grooming others to run for office in the Black Community...YES!!!!! and we are....

Now have I agreed with the work of all elected officials...No..... but I realized that if I did what I could..my community would be better off. So while you identify our elected officials as the problem....I strongly disagree. It is a partnership: Elected Officials + Community Engagement = a stabilized powerful Community.

By Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr.

In oral arguments before the Supreme Court on the Voting Rights Act, Justice Antonin Scalia slandered the act as a “racial entitlement,” arguing, “whenever a society adopts racial entitlements, it is very difficult to get out of them through the normal political processes.”

So, the right-wing justice intimated, the conservative “Gang of Five” on the Supreme Court had every right to step in and overrule the 98 senators who voted unanimously to reauthorize the act (including the senators of every state and jurisdiction required to seek pre-clearance of any changes in their voting laws).

The justice proved once more that he is not a neutral arbiter of the Constitution but a right-wing activist with an agenda to enforce. Deference to the popularly elected Congress and president is, apparently, only when they do what Scalia considers to be proper.

When they choose to reauthorize a Voting Rights Act that has protected the rights of millions and transformed America’s democracy since its passage in 1965, Justice Scalia thinks the court should negate

their act, since he somehow considers protection of the right to vote a “racial entitlement.”

Scalia’s racial taunt has received the scorn it deserves. It makes more sense to apply his reasoning to the real “racial entitlements” that still scar our nation.

For example, a recent study by Brandeis University revealed a stunning increase in the wealth gap between whites and blacks in America. The gap tripled between 1984 and 2009. In 2009, the median wealth (the difference between what you own and what you owe) of a white household was $113,149. The median wealth of a black household was $5,677.

Why the difference? The study found five contributing factors.

First, whites were more likely to be homeowners than blacks, often because their families are more able to help with down payments. Black families who worked for 200 years in slavery and 100 years in segregation had less ability to accumulate wealth.

Second, whites made more income than blacks, even for comparable work.

Third, blacks are twice as likely to be unemployed as whites, and, with less of a family cushion to rely on, more likely to deplete their savings when unemployed.

Fourth, whites are five times more likely to inherit money, and their inheritance averages 10 times as much. Again, this surely is in part a legacy of our scarred history.

Finally, whites are more likely to have a college education than blacks. Blacks are more likely to find advanced training difficult to finance. They are more likely to graduate with debt, and their average debt on graduation is greater.

The wealth gap is, in Scalia’s words, a “racial entitlement.” Only this entitlement favors whites, not blacks. As Scalia wrote, “whenever a society adopts racial entitlements, it is very difficult to get out of them through the normal political processes.” That’s why it took a Civil War to end slavery, and to amend the Constitution to guarantee equal protection of the laws. It took the sacrifice of lives and limbs in a civil rights movement to end segregation, and to pass the Voting Rights Act to provide minorities with an equal right to vote. On economic inequality, the promise of 40 acres and a mule for freed slaves was broken. Dr. King marched on Washington to redeem a “canceled check” marked “insufficient funds.”

If Scalia is right, “the normal political processes” won’t solve this racial entitlement. Nor, for that matter, will the right-wing Gang of Five on the Supreme Court.

Jesse Louis Jackson, Sr. is an American civil rights activist and Baptist minister.

He was a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984 and 1988 and served as a shadow U.S. Senator for the District of Columbia from 1991 to 1997.

The Power of Prayer By Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson

JACKSON: Court misses white racial entitlement

When I first entered public life I promised God that prayer would be central to my activities and my service. I have always understood the value of taking issues and concerns to God. It was a lesson that I learned as a little girl from my own father who

prayed before every meal, and requested that my siblings and I quote a scripture before we ate.

For the past eighteen years I have sponsored an annual prayer breakfast for members of the faith community in North Texas. This year the event was held on February 11th at the Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute at the Juanita J. Craft Recreation Center.

Nearly 125 members of the ecumenical faith community attended as we fellowshipped and considered the theme: “The Cost of Humanity: Protecting and Providing for Society’s Vulnerable.

Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the presiding prelate of the 10th Episcopal District for the African Methodist Episcopal Church, was our keynote speaker. Bishop McKenzie is also the first woman to be elected a Bishop in her denomination.

She spoke about the responsibility that people of faith have to build and restore their communities. She challenged those in attendance to serve people, and to create a better world for the young, the elderly and the infirmed.

She spoke about her own experiences as a new minister with a congregation of thirty-five people that challenged drug dealers and prostitutes who stood on street corners, and lived in a house near her church in Baltimore, Maryland.

Among the clergy that attended were Dr. Jerry L. Christian of Kirkwood Temple C.M.E., Pastor Jo Hudson of Cathedral of Hope, Reverend Rudy Garcia of the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Rabbi Andrew Paley of Temple Shalom, Revathi Srinath of the DFW Hindu Temple and Reverend Claude Maples, the retired pastor of the Romine Christian Church. Reverend Maples also acted as our master of ceremonies.

I was blessed to make a special presentation to Bishop J. Neaul Haynes, the Pastor of the Saintsville Church of God In Christ who is also a member of the COGIC national board.

Bishop Haynes has been one of the prayers warriors whose presence in our community has truly been a gift from God. His daughter, Pia Williams, the Texas Jurisdictional Supervisor for the Department of Women in the Church of God In Christ, gave the benediction.

I have found prayer to be a valuable resource in my public and personal lives. It should be something that we do daily. It is crucial to our well-being and to the success of our communities.

U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson is the highest-ranking Texan on the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure and a senior member of the Science Committee.

Leach has been the Senior Pastor at The Mount for the last 17 years and has seen transformation inside the four walls of the church and beyond.

Leach says, "We are grateful to our founding family who inspired us to bring about change in the Garland community. For 55 years we have expected “great things” from God and He has delivered."

The Mount will be celebrating this year's anniversary on Sunday, March 17, 2013 (at both the 7:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. Services) by launching its Yes Campaign. The campaign slogan is To Grow The Kingdom of God through...Time. Talents. Treasures.

Associate Pastor of Family Counseling and Administration at the church, Aaron Gaddis says, "Our goal is to have our members build and grow the future of Mount Hebron, through acts of service and time by participating in ministries, mobilizing their God-given talents in ministries, and by investing their treasures through their tithes, offerings, investments, and endowments."

The church, with 65+ ministries, will also be holding a Ministry Fair on this Sunday, which will give members the opportunity to receive information and sign up to be

apart of the various ministries on The Mount.

The most recent ministry launched on The Mount is The Family Room, which opened November 2012.

Ask

Gwen

I did so much for my boyfriend and still got rejected!

Dear Gwen:I have dated my boyfriend for about nine years on and off. I do love him and for years I had hopes of marrying this man. This is the problem: I have invested my time and my money in him.About four years ago I was shopping at a thrift store and noticed a wedding dress. It looked like new. I bought it because his male friend had hinted to me that my boyfriend was going to propose to me that upcoming Christmas. I started setting the date and looking at other options of where the wedding would take place.Well, Christmas came and Christmas went and no proposal. I was devastated almost to the point of losing my mind.

Gwendolyn, what’s taking him so long to marry me? I know he loves me.

Tina Dear TinaWhen the proposal didn’t come, you should have terminated the relationship. You didn’t have to date for nine years. You actually didn’t. You must come to the realization that maybe, just maybe, your friend is not the person for you. Open your eyes Tina, truly it is clear he is not worthy of you. Keep in mind that men do not seem to love as strongly as women. In some cases, however, men do love strongly, but usually those strong out of sight emotions result in violence. Another error you made was to listen to his friend. He may have indicated to his friend he was going to propose to you – and then had a change of mind. You stated in your letter this man is a felon and cannot get a job. You mentioned you stood by him when he went to jail and you stood by him when he had a drug problem. Gee, Tina, you did too much – as most women do. Don’t waste your future any longer on this man. Some men appreciate the good of a woman, but think about it —most men don’t.

ALL BUSINESSES MUST IMPLEMENT NEW EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION

FORM I-9By Allen Orr, Orr Immigration Law Firm

Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) -- The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) introduced the new Form I-9, (Rev. 03/08/13) on March 8. Employers should begin using the new form immediately for all new hires, re-hires and reverification. Using prior versions of the Form I-9 after

May 7, 2013, will cause the employer to be subject to fines. Employers must use the Form I-9 to verify an employees work authorization in the US. The new form can be found at http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf.

The new Form I-9 is a two-page document with seven pages of instructions. The flow and content of the form are similar to the previous version; however, the layout is revised to provide additional space and clarity to the preparer. The new version also has added data fields for an email address, phone number and foreign passport. The email address and phone number fields are optional, and have been added to assist the government in contacting individuals during an investigation. USCIS has also revised the Handbook for Employers, Form M-274, http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/m-274.pdf and the I-9 Central website, www.uscis.gov/I-9Central, to complement the instructions and format of the new Form I-9. In addition there will be several free webinars hosted by USCIS covering completion and implementation of the new form. The dates and times of the webinars are located on the I-9 Central portal.

Employers should use the implementation of the new form as an opportunity to ensure that company policies and procedures are current and compliant. Best practices include a written policy regarding Form I-9 rules and procedures, yearly audits and training, and appointing and I-9 czar for your company.

I-9 inspections by the government are at an all-time high. Neglecting to fill out I-9 forms or filling out I-9 forms incorrectly can result in fines of up to $1,100 for every incorrect form.

– Bishop T.D. Jakes and The Potter’s House of Dallas, Inc. will celebrate the graduation of 109 ex-offenders on Sunday March 17, 2013 at 9 a.m. CDT from the Texas Offenders Re-entry Initiative (T.O.R.I.), a year-long program that helps former inmates transition to life outside the penal system thereby dramatically increasing their chances for success while reducing the likelihood of recidivism. The ceremony will be held at The Potter’s House at 6777 W. Kiest Blvd. in Dallas.

Texas has one of the largest prison populations in the United States with a cost of $49.40 per inmate per day to incarcerate, versus only $.98 per day to rehabilitate ex-offenders through the T.O.R.I. program.

The U.S. recidivism rate is 67 percent of former prisoners re-arrested and 52 percent re-incarcerated within three years of their release—but The Potter’s House is working to decrease that

number. The T.O.R. I . p rogram recidivism rate is at a low nine percent.

F o u n d e d i n December 2004 by Bishop Jakes, T.O.R.I. is an intensive 12-m o n t h c a s e management program that offers six core services: employment, housing, education, family reunification, h e a l t h c a r e a n d spiri tual guidance. Since its inception, T.O.R.I. has served m o r e t h a n 7 , 0 0 0 formerly incarcerated individuals returning to Texas.

“ T h e p r o o f o f T.O.R.I.’s effectiveness is clearly indicated in its extraordinary low recidivism rate,” said Bishop T.D. Jakes, senior pastor at The Potter’s

House and founder of T.O.R.I. “We are proud of our graduates for completing

this program and our alumni who apply the lessons learned and continually work hard to beat the statistics.”N o t e d a c t o r a n d director Charles S. Dutton will deliver the keynote address to the graduating hopefuls and an array of Dallas dignitaries, judges and spec i a l gues t s i n attendance, including t h e f r i e n d s a n d f a m i l i e s o f t h e graduating class.Charles S. Dutton is an American stage,

film, and television actor and director, best known for his roles as "Fortune" in the film Rudy, "Dillon" in Alien 3, and

the title role in the television sitcom “Roc.”

More than his celebrity, Dutton’s personal story equips him to deliver a keynote address that will resonate with graduates and attendees, alike. Recently, he embarked on a new one-man play entitled, “From Jail to Yale: Serving Time on Stage,” an autobiographical take on his journey from the prison system to the playhouses of Yale.

Due to the program’s success rate and high need for the program’s services, T.O.R.I. is working to expand to include even more ex-offenders.

“The best way to get ahead of the demand is for individuals, corporations, and foundations to rally around T.O.R.I.’s mission and support it so we can expand our services, serve more p e o p l e a n d e n d t h e c y c l e o f incarceration indefinitely,” said Tina Naidoo, a licensed social worker and executive director of T.O.R.I.

Girls Night Out with Mindless Behavior!

RG  By  Design

By Eva G. Coleman

A rush to grab the best seat… Screams and tears… and this was inside the theater as girls ranging from young to old witnessed the Dallas debut of Mindless Behavior’s All Around the World.

It reminded me of the reaction of many during my years as a pre-teen when the group New Edition took the stage. Others older than me may recall that feeling from the Jackson Five. Homage to Michael and his brothers was cleverly woven into All Around the World when the boys ended their concert tour in Indiana.

The sensation is the same. Only the characters have changed. However, this film did bring something different. It delivered the emotional process of developing boys to men.

Music Producers Keisha Gamble and Walter Millsap not only sought out and discovered the four boys Roc Royal, Ray Ray, Princeton and Prodigy,

they adopted them and strategically developed their dreams of being entertainers.

This concert documentary gives behind the scenes evidence that goes beyond the shows. It shares Gamble and Millsap’s process of keeping the boys grounded in education, family, and consciousness of caring for the well being of others.

Many scenes reach the core of the human condition, and elicit heartfelt reactions. Including an emotional time when they boys are reunited with family members midway through their tour. The tears shed are real, both on screen and in the auditorium where silence was met with sniffles.

It’s not just a flick that strings concert tours together. It shows how four boys were brought together grow together, and have a legion of fans that become mindless in self discovery, knowing it’s not important to try and fit in…just be comfortable in being yourself.

1913 - 2013

Stoker is a must-see thrilling murder mystery. The movie grabs your attention in the opening scene with who is later to be revealed as one of the main characters standing in the middle of a street with a brown dress on overlooking a field of flowers. It is no ordinary feel to the scene the

feeling is of horror mentally disturbed energy. The scene moves on to a point where the girl, India, returns to her home only to discover her father has been killed. There is also new company in the

house with her uncle whom she has never met but shows his face at the funeral. The uncle announces to the mother

and India that he will be staying with them for a while. He claims to India that he has been

busy traveling around the world and this is why they have never met. The movie moves on to the next day

and the uncle is outside digging up grass he makes a comment to India who he sees through a window on how soft the soil is. This struck me as him

hinting to how soft he thought the family was and how easy it would be for him to take advantage of India and her mother. India appears as the normal suburban

girl, weird and proper, which makes her stand out throughout the film. T h e m o v i e

continues on to a scene where India is asked to take some ice cream to the freezer in the basement but when she brings the ice c r e a m downstairs and opens up the freezer she is distracted by a sound. She throws the ice cream in the freezer and runs back up stairs. There is a quick glimpse of what is in

the freezer and it looks to be a dead body inside but it is not enough time to verify the contents.

When she returns upstairs the uncle is sharpening a knife which gives you the feel that he is a murderer. The next day India goes to school and

when she arrives back home she finds her mother passed out in the home office. Looking drugged as she is

slumped over in her seat, but nothing is said about this as t h e s c e n e s change. L a t e r t h e f a m i l y i s having dinner that the uncle has cooked, a l though he has a plate full

of food he only watches as India and her mother clear their plates, never touching his food. This makes you wonder if he is trying

to poison the two. As the scenes move on there is symbolism that seems to say the uncle is the one who killed the father. Then you come to find out that

there in fact is a dead body in the freezer in the basement. The family’s maid, whom they have been looking for was killed and put into the freezer, and India finds her body but does not question the uncle about it. The mother falls for her late

husband’s brother and begins an affair kissing the uncle in the dining room as they dance. India sees this through the window and runs off to find a boy she knows from school. As things unfold, India later comes to

find out that the uncle was lying about traveling the world and was locked in an insane asylum for killing his younger brother, but it is still not revealed how India’s father, his older brother died. The story gets wierder as India

becomes affectionate toward her uncle, possibly having sex with him. She agrees to move to New York with him and start a life. The mother becomes very jealous and burns all of India’s stuff. The violent end to this twisted story is

almost expected.

– ORIX Foundation, the charitable foundation of Dallas-based financial services leader ORIX USA, has announced a $102,000 gift, raised from their Holiday Drive for Captain Hope’s Kids an organization whose mission is meeting the needs of homeless children. Captain Hope’s Kids provides support for homeless children in North Texas; in Dallas, Collin, Denton, Tarrant, and Johnson counties.

In 2012, Captain Hope’s Kids received and distributed more than one half a million critically needed items to approximately 40,000 homeless children. Captain Hope’s Kids purchases diapers, training pants, school uniforms, school supplies and hygiene items for infants and children in large quantities. This enables them to secure the best value for the money and make more efficient “purchases than partner agencies.

“ORIX Foundation employees put their professional skills to work for the community, helping to drive positive change for the individuals and families who need it most,” said Elizabeth Daane, President and Founding Director of ORIX Foundation. “We believe our philanthropic work is not only a smart investment, but is absolutely the right thing to do.”

The past few years, the number of homeless children across Texas has increased. Mothers with babies and

children have become one of the fastest-growing segments of the homeless population. On any given night in Dallas County alone, more than 1,100 children fall asleep in homeless and domestic violence shelters.

Families with children now constitute approximately 54 percent of people who become homeless as reported by the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance 2012 Survey. This represented an increase of 36 percent from 2010. Of the homeless children, 67 percent are under the age of 9 and 29 percent are infants and toddlers under the age of 3 years.

“Our mission at ORIX Foundation is to advance education, strengthen communities and improve lives,” said Carol Greene, Foundation Director. “We want children and families to succeed- in school, in the workforce and in life. As such, we are excited to be able to provide these funds to assist your organization in providing increased opportunities and resources for those you serve; as this program fits squarely within the scope of that goal.”

Captain Hope’s Kids aims to continue broadening our reach and improving our program services while maintaining low operating costs. Out of every dollar received, approximately 93 percent goes directly toward program services.

Washington, D.C. – As the February jobs numbers were released, U.S. Representative Kevin Brady (R-TX), Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, challenged President Obama’s re-election claim of ‘an economy built to last’.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) reported today that the economy added 246,000 private sector payroll jobs in January and the unemployment rate fell to 7.7%.

“The number of Americans forced to subsist on food stamps to avoid hunger has grown faster than those finding jobs under President Obama.  That’s not an economy built to last.  That’s an economy that is struggling,” said Brady.

The White House frequently boasts that the U.S. economy has created 6.4 million private sector jobs since jobs bottomed out in February 2010.  But more than 8

million American families were added to the food stamp rolls through November 2012 (latest data). That’s a ratio of 1.4 new people on food stamps for every new private sector job created from the jobs bottom through November 2012.

“When President Clinton left office only one in 16 Americans needed food stamps.  Under President Obama, it’s grown to nearly one in six.  That’s the pain that families endure under the weakest economic recovery in modern times,” said Brady.

President Clinton, working with Republicans in Congress, shrunk the size of government and balanced the budget, while reducing the number of food stamp recipients by 10 million, Brady noted.

“President Obama could learn a thing or two from the last Democratic president.  Growing the government isn’t growing the

middle class in America,” said Brady.  “The sign of a compassionate government isn’t more Americans needing food

stamps.  It is more Americans working in well-paying jobs so they no longer need assistance.”

Not Just VanillaFrom fashioner to painter, DJ Naehritz has been an artist most of

her life. Although a native Texan, she spent many of her formative years on the west coast. Having lived in a liberating

atmosphere influences her work today. Her bold, impasto abstractions are highly atypical and pull the viewer into the work

to consider the interplay of form and texture. Her use of color and the way her palate intermingles is at times warming and

sensual, other times bold and engaging. Her compelling compositions are rich with complex texture and depth.

and equality. Always insisting on presenting the truth as she sees it, she has maintained a prominent place as a strong voice

Business people don't plan to fail; they simply fail to follow God's Plan.

There are many books that teach us how to succeed in

business.  And there are many books that teach us how to apply the Word of God to our lives.  What if there was a
