Coordinating volunteers to help seniors and adults

with disabilities maintain their independence

I nterfaith Caregivers is honored to be able to serve veterans of “The Greatest Generation.”

We recently had a request to help a 92 yr-old man who needs rides twice a month to the American Legion and the VFW. He’s their chaplain. It’s his duty to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer before their meetings.

We matched him with a volunteer who works during the day and was available to take him in the evenings. We also added another vet who, prior to contacting us, was unable to attend the regular meetings without a ride. Our volunteer is happy to help both of them get to and from their meetings. Besides needing to get to his

meetings, the chaplain called for a ride to his appointment at the VA in Rice Lake. Of course, the biggest snow storm of the year came the evening before his appointment. Our volunteer barely made it out of her driveway at the start. But she

was able to safely navigate her way to Rice Lake without incident.

The chaplain called our office later and shared that he was so glad to have gotten to his appointment. He complimented his volunteer on her safe

driving. He’d really needed to get that shot in his knee; that he felt much better. And, they stopped at the Norske Nook for lunch and a delightful visit.

And thanks to his driver, Mary, for her courage to weather the storm and share a meal with a local hero.

BRING IT TO THE BALLOT....

Wisconsin now requires a Photo ID to vote.

There are many forms of Photo ID, which you may already have, that can be used to vote. Anyone with a valid Wisconsin driver's license or Wisconsin State ID card, already has the photo ID they need for voting purposes.

If you don’t know if you have the proper ID to vote, contact your local municipal clerk or county clerk for a complete list of qualified photo ID documents. Or ask for instructions on how to get a free State ID card from the Wisc. Department of Motor Vehicles.

Remember - If you need a ride to get an ID card or to vote in Polk County, please call Interfaith Caregivers as soon as possible.

Are you part of a group, family, church or

organization that wants to help? We arrange for raking and bagging leaves, cleaning first

story gutters, washing outside windows, simple

painting, pruning gardens,

moving lawn furniture, fixing

a fence and other small jobs.

Call soon so we can match a

neighbor to your group.

2015 DON GETSCHEL AWARD WINNERS

The Don Getschel Volunteer Driver Award was created to recognize and honor our volunteer drivers who love driving Polk County seniors and adults with disabilities. The award goes to the top two Interfaith volunteers based on the miles that they drove in 2015. Wilma Gray of Luck and Kathy Keinholz of Milltown together donated nearly 4,100 miles to our program! Both drivers received a certificate of appreciation and had their names engraved on the Don Getschel Volunteer Driver Award plaque which hangs in the Interfaith office.

(L2R: Kathy Kienholz, Chair Pete Raye, Wilma Gray)

Previous winners include Malissia Algeo, David

Anderson, Sheila Berklund, Nancy Cummings,

Susan Kellogg, David Michaelson, Dawn Rambo

and Jane Smith.

Volunteer News

“Interfaith is such a wonderful service

for many people and I am very glad to

be a small part of it.” ~Volunteer

Here is the story our volunteer shared:

“So looking at the stain glass window of the

sun going down/going up...it reminded me of

the question of the cup being half empty or half

full? For us, most of the time the cup is half full,

but sometimes feel it is half empty. So it was

with the sun going down, we recognized our

decline and looked forward to that day when

the new life will rise.

However, for now, being a part of the Care-

givers volunteer family has given us the focus on

and the joy of the sun rising... maybe, maybe we

are helping make someone else's life a little

easier … isn't that the focus of what Interfaith

Caregivers is about… I think so…”

National Volunteer Appreciation Week

Coming April 10-16

Thanks for our wonderful volunteers!!!

20 year of

assisting

seniors &

adults with

disabilities

Interfaith Caregivers was honored to

receive this beautiful stained glass

window for our new office in Milltown.

Gifts and Memorials Interfaith extends heartfelt thanks to the following people, churches, organizations and businesses for their

donations. Every effort is made to include the names of all donors during this period. If your name was

omitted, please accept our apologies and let us know so we can promptly correct our records.
