2002 molybdenum, Mo molybdenum, Mo I 5600 46 - 022 Hydrothermal Synthesis of the First Vanadomolybdenum Polyoxoca- tion with a ”Metal-Bonded” Spherical Framework. Dark violet crystals of [(V V O 4 )Mo VI 12 O 36 (V IV O) 6 ][(OH) 9 ]·11H 2 O are hydrothermally grown from a mixture of (NH 4 ) 2 MoS 4 , NH 4 VO 3 , NaOH, NH 2 OH·HCl in H 2 O (stainless steel reactor, 190 C, 25 h, 25% yield). Single crystal XRD reveals that the compound crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4/mnc with Z = 2. Its structure contains a discrete six-capped Keggin-type [(V V O 4 )Mo VI 12 O 36 (V IV O) 6 ] 9+ polyoxocation, which is based on the well-known α-Keggin struc- ture [XM 12 O 40 ] n- with six additional square-pyramidal terminal VO 2+ units.
