Dear Tuscarora Families, We are rapidly approaching the beginning of a new academic year and the excitement of students coming back soon is beginning to surface. Already, our fall athletics and band are preparing for the up- coming season. In addition, several groups of teachers have been meeting throughout the summer to prepare for the upcoming school year. As we prepare for our August 23, 2018 opening day, we will hold our student orientation on Tues- day, August 21, 2018 from 9:30 am until 11:30am. Students will pick up their schedules and visit class- rooms. For those students that are unable to attend the orientation, schedules will be available for them when they arrive to school on August 23. Back to School Night is on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The Back to School Night is a drop in format. We will have our opening tailgate activity on August 31, 2018, beginning at 4PM until 7PM. The community is invited to come out and meet one another as we prepare to play Broad Run High School in our opening football game at 7PM. We will also have Spirit Wear available for purchase. Tuscarora is committed to being a school of excellence in every way. We value student success and excellence in both academic and personal capacities. I encourage you to become involved in the school by joining the PTSO, the Husky Athletic Boosters, the Band Boosters, or as a volunteer. I hope that you will support and encourage your son or daughter to also become involved. The more connected students are to their school, the more rewarding their high school experience will be. The LCPS College Fair offers students and parents the opportunity to speak with college, university, and military representatives in one venue. Breakout sessions from three universities will be offered during the fair as well. Approximately 200 representatives will be in attendance. Students are strongly encouraged to register for the college fair so that they may receive a barcode to be used when providing information to college and university representatives. By register for a barcode stu-dents will spend less time filling out information cards and gain important one-on-one time with represent-atives. Students can register through www.gotocollegefairs.com, then search for the VACRAO fair at Stone Bridge High School.

SAT at THS on November 3
Students can sign up to take the SAT at www.collegeboard.org. Regular registration deadline is October 5th for the SAT that will take place on November 3rd at Tuscarora High School.
PSAT DATES Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will be taking the PSAT on October 10th at THS. The PSAT will not be offered on Saturday per College Board.
SENIOR COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT
September 20, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the THS Auditorium
Seniors and their parents will want to be present when Counselors present the college application process and explain, step-by-step, what is required to request a transcript or Counselor Letter of Recommendation. They will also talk about how to obtain Teacher Recommendations and explain what they need in order to write a comprehensive Secondary School Report for each Senior.
The transition from high school into a two- or four-year college or university can be stressful and starts earlier than you might expect. Please join us for College Planning Night, an evening devoted to helping students and parents learn the nuances of the college planning process.
College Planning Night will feature college admissions representatives from colleges, universities, and
Northern Virginia Community College. These college representatives will discuss pertinent topics associat-
ed with the college planning process. Topics to be discussed will include, but are not limited to, the college
admission process, college essay writing, financial aid, scholarships, and the benefits of attending a com-
munity college.

THS Rolls Into A New Fall Sports Year with High Expectations!
The fall season is underway and our Husky programs have used the off season to prep for post season runs once again this year.
The Volleyball team will begin the defense of their 2017 State Class 5 State Championship with a great mix of experience and young dynamic players. Come out and dig some great volleyball.
The Competition Cheer squad will look to take the final step after a State Runner-Up finish at the Class 5 State Cheer Championship last year!
The Golf team has taken to the course with a bag full of tricks for the local courses as they strive to make a run in the district and target honors at the state level.
The Husky Football Team looks to build on their State Runner-Up finish and continue to be a perennial power-house in the district and region. The team will begin the new season on the road at 7pm on Thursday August 23 at King George.
The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams will be stacked with talent and will be in the mix for confer-ence, region, and state titles. The Lady Huskies are coming off their third State Title in 4 years.
The Field Hockey team will hit the field for their third season as a varsity sport. The team has grown and brings a wealth of energy and excitement to the field this fall.
