    HUNGER Controlled by hypothalamus:

Ventromedial hypothalamus - makes you feelfull

    If the hypothalamus is functioning

normally, these two areas oppose eachother and signal impulses to eat andstop eating at appropriate times.

APPETITEStimulated by the sight, smell, or thoughtof food and associated with memory andperception = conditioned response to food

Sometimes it is triggered by hunger, butmany times its due to cravings, habits, theavailability of food, boredom, or other socialand emotional factors.

Stomach secreted Ghrelin, the hungerhormone which sends a message to receptorsin your brain, telling them to be morereceptive to foods visual cues.

    PSYCHOLOGY IN HUNGER AND

APPETITEHunger is not, of course, entirely a physicalprocess. Culture and individually learned preferences

and eating habits affect our food choices, e.gDurian. Our culture and upbringing also provide uswith various beliefs and attitudes about foodand eating in general, and our personalmemories can influence our eating behaviorsas well.
