What is human trafficking?
• Human trafficking is modern day slavery• There are two kinds of trafficking:
1. Forced labor2. Sexual exploitation
Statistics
• 700,000 to 2,000,000 people trafficked a year• 15% of victims are forced into labor• 14% of victims are sexually exploited• 71% of victims are involved in both• Trafficking is a $10,000,000,000 industry
Who is involved?
• Victims: can be anyone– Women– Children– Runaways– Homeless people– Illegal immigrants– Poor people
• Traffickers:― Have the same nationality as the victim― Is someone the victim knows and trusts
• Countries:– Where victims are taken from– That are the destination sites for victims– Where victims are transported through

What is being done?
• Awareness campaigns• Police force training• Laws against trafficking• Formation of government and nongovernment organizations• Prosecution of traffickers• Protection and reintegration of victims
