Learning Setting

I home school my children and I have never taught in a school or school like setting.

The learning setting is my home, which my children do “school” at the kitchen table or a desk in their room. We have four working computers in our home with cable TV also.

The student is a 8th grade student who is homeschooled. The students learning style is what I would call more kinesthetic, she learns better by doing. So most of this project will be hands on type of project giving her the chance to walk though the steps of creating a power point presentation with instructor guidance as needed.

The assessment will be the final project, I

don’t believe in grades, I will give her a

pass or fail, but if it is not right we go

back and fix it together.

Educator Learning Style

I am personally a combination of visual and kinesthetic learning style. I learn best by doing or seeing someone else do it then trying it myself. because of college and from also reading information about homeschooling and child development my learning style has improved. Homeschooling has given me the opportunity to be able to help each of my kids in their own unique ways and all of them do use all three ways of learning styles like I believe everyone does.

Teaching Style

My teaching experience has just been with my own kids, and I don’t teach them a certain way per se….I have done a lot of reading on child development and finding ways to encourage my children to learn and develop naturally when they are mature enough to handle new skills in their life. I follow their cues and always find ways to encourage them to become self thinkers and find the answers themselves. I help guide them in the direction they need to go to find out what they want to know.

So to have a specific teaching style, I find is something I cannot do, I teach each of my children differently because they are each different. This is something I feel that can not be done in a classroom. So my situation is unique.

Learning Objectives of final project. To learn how to create a Power Point project, while researching a current event to create the project around.

Details of Project. Research a current event issue in today’s culture and find the 4 main points of this event. Make sure to use and pictures or video clips you may run across in your research.

Putting the information into Power Point Make sure to use catching graphics, pictures, videos, color, text, and the like in Power Point to create a great presentation. Watch tutorial created by me to help get you started.

Assessment of final project Final Power Point presentation will be the assessment.

How to use PowerPoint?

1. Click on start menu and find PowerPoint in your programs

list.

2. Click on design and pick a design from the available designs.

3. Add title for your project.

4. Click on home tab, then click on new slide and choose the next slide for your project.

5. You can choose a smart art graphic, chart, or graphic picture to add to your

project on each slide you choose.

6. Videos are also able to be put into the project by clicking on the video

icon.

7. Be sure to add a reference page at the end by citing all your sources.

How to cite a reference?

A reference is the source in which you get your information, this includes the Title, Author, Date of publication, and from where you found the information.

This could be a website, book, or other type of printed material.

A list of all your references needs to be listed at the end of any project.

Now Put it all Together

Take the information you have found about the current event and put it into the Power Point project.

Use the graphic art to spread out the points and put in picture and the like to make it beautiful.

At least one point per page.

Assessment

Assessment is the finished project. I don’t believe in grades and I believe in being available for the student to walk them through a problem spot or help them fix something when it is wrong. So ideally if this is done by the teacher then the student should get a pass/A+ on the project.
