Similarities – Digipak: Inside Cover

The digipak features Sarah in a natural environment, which was something that was evident throughout our music video. Additionally, Sarah is alone in the shot, much like she was in the music video. This similarity helps to show the connection between the texts and reinforces the moods and emotions present in both of them, making the overall impact greater. Therefore, the combination of the products is effective.

Similarities – Digipak: Inside Cover

The textures in the still from our music video is similar to that of the digipak. The continuation again infers a connection between the products and suggest similar ideas regarding the message behind Allie Moss’ music. By referencing a range of different texts relating to the same artist/album, the combination is strengthened and thus more effective.

Similarities – Digipak: Outside Cover

All the images, beside the wood background, were stills taken from the music video, which shows that the two products are closely linked and represent similar ideas. Additionally, this increases the standard of the product, meaning that it is more effective.

Similarities – Digipak: Outside Cover

Wood and other earthy materials and textures were also used in our music video. This is reflected in our digipak as the background for the polaroids is a wooden surface, the midlle panel is a photograph of branches and Sarah is laying among dead grass in the left panel. As a consequence, the idea that the emotions depicted are natural is suggested and the narrative portrayed in the music video appears to be raw and basic in the sense that it is stripped to its necessities. This proves that the combination of our products is effective as they help portray our ideas.

Similarities – Advertisement

The movement of Sarah’s hair throughout our music video inspired our advertisement. Also, we used a natural element to move the hair – wind. Wind was a large factor in many of the shots we used in our video, which means that the advertisement is linked, even though it is not an image taken directly from the video. The positioning of the hair also matches the shots of nature we used in our music video. This combination is not the most obvious, but we feel that by referencing between the texts, we are creating the most effective set of products possible.

Differences – Digipak: Inside Cover

The digipak features a quote from Allie Moss that she gave in an interview. This quote is not feautred in our music video, so it’s addition adds a more personal touch to an album that tackles personal issues. This, in our opinion, makes the three products stronger as a collective.

The image is also edited in a way that makes it different from the music video. The colours are slightly unrealistic in tone, which suggests that the music on the album may differ from the song we selected for our music video. As more ideas are being presented, we feel as though the combination of the products increases the effect.

Differences – Digipak: Outside Cover

The stills from the music video are edited differently from the music video, and mirror the montage section of our main product. By being different, other emotions are presented, which highlight the diversity in terms of subject matter on the album. This is effective as it adds an extra dimension to the products as a collective.

Differences – Advertisement

The advertisement is much darker than the music video in terms of colour, and when placed alongside the bright digipak, creates three different colour palettes. This again suggests that Moss’ music surpasses the content of ‘Corner’, the song we used for our music video.

ConclusionOverall, we feel as though we created a set of products that are effective both individually as well as collectively.By having several similarites between the products, the impact the themes have upon the audience is greater, thus underlining the effectiveness of the combination of our main media product and ancillary texts.Additionally, there are differences between each text, meaning that all three add an extra element to the set as a whole. This further increases the success of the products as a combination as they remain interesting and relevant to the main ideas we were trying to present.
