Step1

When we eat, the food

is mixed in the mouth

with saliva. Then we

swallow it.

Step 2

The food leaves the

mouth and goes down

the oesophagus to

the stomach

Step 3 In the stomach food is mixed with gastric juices. Then

it passes into the small intestine

Step 4

The food in the small intestine is mixed with juices

from the intestine, pancreas and the liver. This mix

becomes nutrients that the body needs and other

substances thatthe body doesn’t need.

Step 4

NUTRIENTS

The nutrients travel into

the blood through the

small

intestine(absorption)

OTHER SUBSTANCES

The other substances tha

tthe body doesn’t need go on

to the large intestine and

end up in the anus
