Port Commissioner R. H. Pruett spoke to the April meeting of tile Greater Bay-town Chamber of Commerce in the interest of getting Baytown area support for ahearing before the U. S. Corps of Engineers to discuss clearing the mouth of GooseCreek where it enters tile Houston Ship Channel. Shown pointing out the locationof the bar at the mouth of the stream, Pruett said that more than 30 companiesused the stream for commercial water borne travel, but that due to silting at tilemouth there are many days of tile year when vessels could not cross the bar to enteror leave.

He was BaronWolfgang von Gronau, shown above with Baroness yon Gronau and his daughter,Mrs. R. S. Pieratt of Houston. At left is German Consul Ludwig Fabel who accom-panied the distinguished couple. Baron von Gronau was the first European to flythe Atlantic from East to West, landing in New York harbor in a flying boat in1930 where he was given a ticker-tape welcoming reception down Broadway. Aretired general, Baron von Gronau presently lives in Munich.
