    Houston FLUKA Activity Update

  • Current NASA StatusNASA is undergoing a major redirection in its programs:The next generation orbital lift vehicle development as an internal NASA project has been terminatedPlans call for this capability to be taken over by commercial entities with guaranteed government contractsNASA will continue to support the ISS using Russian launch capability for the next 4-5 years before US commercial vehicles are availableNASA will begin to refocus its research on the exploration of the Solar System, including the development of new propulsion technologies, spacecraft designs, and the associated support infrastructuresThere should be opportunities for FLUKA and Medipix as this redirection takes shapeNASAs budget will increase by1.6 G$/yr (which is 1.4 G$ to small)FLUKA Meeting--INFN-Milan July 9, 2010 L. • Current Houston Group ActivityToni is working mainly on simulations in support of the Darkside Dark-Matter expt. (but he is continuing to work on FLULA development)Brandon Reddell is completing the analysis of the AGS data examining the overlap between RQMD and DPMJET.Nic Stoffle is working on developing a FLUKA simulation for the Medipix detector response to heavy-ions.Dilan Minthaka is working on ALICE and will use FLUKA to simulate the upcoming PS & SPS Test Beam EMCal runs, as well as to look into enhancing the ALICE TPC particle ID resolution above 2 GeV by fitting the distribution of dE/dx values for the charge voxels.
