OVERVIEW AND TARGET AUDIENCEThis cutting edge information will enhance knowledge, skills and performance of pediatricians, family medicine physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, school nurses, psychologists, social workers and all others who provide adolescent health care.

This increased knowledge and skills will help attendees better serve teens in their work place as well as with their role in policy making.

OBJECTIVESUpon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

• Describe the basics of body beautification, piercings and tattoos and the risks associated with them.

• Discuss why youth become associated with gangs and how to intervene.

• Describe how a variety of factors, including drug and alcohol use, internet exposure and the use of social networking sites can influence adolescent sexual behaviors.

• Discuss the connection between bullying and suicide in adolescents.

• Identify the complexities of marijuana in Colorado.

• Review the impact of substance use on brain development.

LOCATION AND PARKINGThe course will be held on the Anschutz Medical Campus at Children’s Hospital Colorado, 13123 East 16th Avenue in Aurora, Colorado. Please enter through the hospital main entrance and take the elevators to the Conference and Education Center on the second floor.

Children’s Hospital Colorado and University of Colorado Hospital employees must park in their designated area. Complimentary parking for conference guests is available on the lower level of the Family Visitor parking structure, just south of the hospital’s main entrance.

CANCELLATION POLICYThe registration fee is non-refundable, however, you may send a substitute (notification is required). The Planning Committee reserves the right to alter the agenda or cancel the conference in the event of an unforeseen circumstance, or if the minimum registration is not attained by October 16, 2015.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION CHAPTER SOCIETY OF ADOLESCENT HEALTH AND MEDICINE (RM-SAHM)RM-SAHM is the Regional Chapter for Colorado and Wyoming. Founded in 1981, it is a diverse, multidisciplinary group of over 100 registered members. The Mission, Vision, and Core Values of RM-SAHM are those of national SAHM. Meetings are held bi-monthly, RM-SAHM also offers four opportunities for continuing education: two as dinner education meetings with a 1.0 hour presentation (January, August), one as a full day “Hot Topics in Adolescent Medicine” Conference (October), and one as an annual banquet recognizing the recipient of the Chapter’s Kathleen Ann Mullen Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Adolescent Health (April). The January meeting functions also as a business meeting to elect the President-Elect and recognize the Chapter’s Nominee for the SAHM Regional Chapter President’s Award. Officers of the Chapter serve from May 1 to April 30 of the following year. The Chapter dues are $20/year. RM-SAHM board welcomes all to the board meetings.
