This includes the driving range and practice greens. There may be no communication between players and spectators that could be deemed advice of any nature for the duration of the 18 holes. The Mid-American Conference Women’s Golf Championships return to The Hawthorns for the third time. The Arthur Hills-designed course also played host to the 2010 and 2012 events. Hills has long been known as one of the nation’s leading course designers, and The Hawthorns upholds that reputation. Winding through more than 275 acres of woods and wetlands, the 18-hole championship course features scenic, meticulously groomed fairways and bent grass greens. The result is a course that provides a welcome challenge, yet is accessible to players of all abilities. The Hawthorns opened in 1994 and features up to 7,124 yards of golf from the back tees. All four sets of tees on the course play to a par-72 layout. Jason Diaz serves as the club’s PGA Executive Director of Golf Operations. His staff includes PGA Assistant Golf Professional Steve Cashore and Assistant Golf Professionals Brad Bastin and Brittany Kelly. Kelly, a former MAC golfer at Ball State, finished second in the 2010 MAC Championships at The Hawthorns. The course has been home to numerous qualifiers for the US Open and US Amateur along with Indianapolis and Indiana State Opens. It has also hosted the Indiana PGA Championship and a stop on the LPGA Symetra Tour. Twice the site of the Women’s Western Amateur, it also welcomed the 2007 NCAA Men’s Division III National Championships.

Award WinnersMAc sportswoman of the Year Award(as voted by players at the MAC Championship)The Sportswoman of the Year award recognizes the player with whom other players most enjoy playing or conversing; has good rapport with her own team; is supportive of her own team, but also respects the competition; makes players feel comfortable to be around her; commands respect and esteem rather than merely being popular and would be considered worthy of representing women’s intercollegiate golf to others.

This is the Mid-American Conference Providing leadership in education and diversity, the Mid-American Conference moves into its 67th year of service to the student-athlete. Since its inception in 1946, the Mid-American Conference has progressively grown and developed into one of the most aggressive Division I conferences in the country. One of only ten Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) conferences, the MAC named Dr. Jon A. Steinbrecher as its eighth commissioner in March of 2009. The league has grown its commitment to championships by expanding to seven its number of neutral site postseason events – football (Ford Field, Detroit), volleyball (SPIRE Academy, Geneva, Ohio), men’s and women’s basketball (Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland), softball (Firestone Stadium, Akron) and baseball (All Pro Freight Stadium, Avon, Ohio). In addition, the SPIRE facility will also serve as the site for the 2014 women’s swimming & diving championship and 2015 men’s swimming & diving championship. Based in Cleveland since July 1999 following a 15-year stay in Toledo, Ohio, the MAC has established historic measurements in both football and men’s and women’s basketball since moving to Northeast Ohio. The MAC was founded as a five-school league on February 24, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio with Ohio, Butler, Cincinnati, Wayne State and Western Reserve admitted as charter members. The Mid-American Conference has 12 full-time schools and a 13th, UMass for football only beginning in 2012. In 1946 men’s basketball was the first competitive sport in the MAC, which now sponsors a total 23 sports. Women’s sports were brought into the conference’s structure in 1980. For men, championships (11) are sponsored in football, basketball, baseball, cross country, soccer, swimming and diving, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, wrestling, golf and tennis. For women, championships (12) are sponsored in basketball, softball, volleyball, cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, gymnastics, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and tennis.
