The hospitality industry is both broad and diverse. This course gives you the opportunity to gain and develop your knowledge and practical experience of what is involved in the world of hospitality. Through a wide range of exciting and engaging activities you will expand your repertoire of dishes from around the world and from different cultures as well as traditional cooking methods and dishes.

You should have a lively and enquiring mind and have a genuine interest in food, hospitality, ingredients and all aspects of food preparation. You need to be willing to explore new ideas and be able to communicate your ideas affectively. You should have enthusiasm ad be very interested in the practical aspects of the food industry and enjoy cooking.

ENTRY QUALIFICATION Entry requirements for the course are that you should have studied GCSE Food Preperation and Nutrition to level 5, or above, or Level 2 Hospitality and Catering to a Level 2 Merit. If you do not have this qualification entry onto the course will be on an interview basis with the subject leader and you will be asked to produce a portfolio of work.

COURSE STRUCTUREThe course is made of units that are all assessed through coursework which will have both written and practical elements. There is therefore no exam for this course. You will be involved in investigational, research and experimental work. Practical skills will be developed throughout the two years in practical sessions and therefore you will be required to bring ingredients on a regular basis. Please consider this cost issue. You will need to complete coursework on time, whilst planning and organising your ideas both independently and efficiently.

CAREERSIf you complete this course successfully it will assist in preparing you for a career in such areas as Events Management, Hotel/Restaurant Management, Catering – Chef, Kitchen Staff, Product Development, Nutrition and Dietetics, to study at university or as part of an apprenticeship.

• The Hospitality Industry

• Contemporary World Food

• Planning and Managing a Hospitality Event

• Principles of Supervising Customer Service Performance in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism.

• Providing Customer Service in Hospitality

• European Food

• Asian Food

You will Level 2 Merit or above in Hospitality and Catering or Level 5 or above in Food Preparation and Nutrition.
