Our Visit to the

Children’s Hospital

By Year 1

At the hospital we met Nicola our guide and Katinya who is a

volunteer.

We listened carefully to

instructions and learned we must walk quietly. We should smile and wave to the patients.

We brought a gold coin to help ba-bies and children like this who are sick.

Research can help doctors find out how to make people better.

We saw offices,

asked lots of questions

and heard a story about a girl who did not wear a

helmet when she rode her scooter.

We met a doctor and learned about our skeleton and our organs.

We used a stethoscope to listen to our heart.

Ted and Zelda showed us how surgeons get ready for an operation.

We met a play therapist.

She explains to children what treatment they will have, where they will need to go and what will happen.

Next we played

Hospital Bingo ...

until we had the winners.

We looked at X-rays,

a broken arm, a swallowed coin and a broken leg.

We even saw one of a frog.

You need to wear a special vest.

We met the radiologist who told us how x-rays are

taken.

We had a healthy morning tea in the Fairy Garden.

Look! Was that a fairy?

We visited the Starlight Express Room and met Captain Starlight and his

helpers.

Sick children can come here for some fun.

We met the dieticians who help children eat the best food for them. Blyth and Angus sorted healthy food from sometimes food. We met the teacher in the hospital school. Shawn and Miyazake had to cut paper with the hand they don’t usually use.

In Physiotherapy Mundarra had his heart rate measured. He went on the

walking machine and it went up.

Other children might need different exercises. Sophia put a weight on her leg to make it

stronger. William showed how you might need to play with a ball or jump on a trampoline like Audrey.

We learned so much in one day!

We’re already

looking forward to our next excursion.
