April 13: Opening Day for the 2020 Season 12-4pm. Marsh Haven is open!April 18: Volunteer Work Day & Opening Day 9am-4pm. Lend a hand anytime as we work to open for the season. April 22: Stories at the Marsh: Earth Day and the Lorax 10-11am. Celebrate Earth Day through stories and activities. Ages 3-7.April 24: Awesome Amphibians 6-8pm. Spring is the time of year when Horicon’s amphibians are most active. Meet a few of our resident animal ambassadors and learn to recognize some common spring frog calls.April 24-27: Old Marsh Road Open for Earth Day Weekend Hike or bicycle Old Marsh Road and enjoy wildlife observation and photography. April 25: Worm Your Way into Composting 9:00-10:30am. Save your table scraps and get your hands dirty and create your own worm bin. Limit 10. Pre-registration and non-refundable $20 fee required. Register at www.horiconmarsh.org. April 25: Earth Day Celebration 10am-3pm. Nature crafts, water bug scooping, animal tracks and pelts, hike and explore the Sense of Wonder Trail/Nature Play Area.April 25: Live Critters with Dave Stokes! 11am-12pm and 1-2pm. Get hands on with live frogs, turtles and more. April 26: Earth Day Celebration 9am-4pm. Plant milkweed, make a recycled craft, hike, and visit with the critters. Meet Smokey Bear at 11am. Wild Birds of Prey program at 1pm with LIVE birds. $May 7-11: Horicon Marsh Bird Festival Marsh-wide event. For more information, visit: www.horiconmarshbirdfestival.comMay 8: Nest Box Hike 4pm. Easy hike to monitor the 40+ nest boxes at Marsh Haven. Free event.May 9: Wild Birds of Prey 11am & 3pm. May 16: Wildflowers for Wildlife: Native Plant Sale 9am-1pm. Native plant sale at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center (Hwy 28). Talk with experts and purchase plants for your own pollinator garden! Visit www.horiconmarsh.org.May 16: DIY Pollinator Planters 1-3pm. Learn how to turn a little dirt, the right plants and an upcycled container into a season-long pollinator invitation! Pre-registration and $20 fee required. See www.horiconmarsh.org for details. May 28: Hawk Talk 6-7pm. This program offers a close-up, casual setting to talk about all things hawks. Hawk Talk is limited to 10 people who will be invited to sit in a roundtable format for a Q & A with our animal caretaker and one of Marsh Haven Nature Center’s educational hawks. Registration is required. $10 per person.May 29: Geocache Adventure 6-8pm. Play along in the world’s largest treasure hunt. GPS provided.Animal Encounters at Marsh Haven Every Friday during June, July & August at 1pm. Stop in for an informative and informal talk featuring one of the animal ambassadors. Topics include feeding, enrichment, training, weighing, trims, and other day to day care.June, July, August: Old Marsh Road Open for Public Access Hike or bicycle Old Marsh Road and enjoy wildlife observation and photography seven days per week. June 2: Beginners Guide to Fishing 6-8pm. Bring your family and cast into summer and learn the ins and outs of basic fishing. All ages.June 5: Voyageur Canoe Birding 7:30-10am or 3:30-6pm. Join us in Voyageur Canoes for a morning or afternoon of birding. Pre-registration required and $15 fee; limit 14 for each trip. horiconmarsh.org. June 6-7: Wisconsin Free Fishing Days Marsh-wide. Designated areas. No license required.June 11: Stories at the Marsh: Fishing 10-11am. What’s it like to be a fish? Come find out through stories and activities outside! Ages 3-7.June 16: Little Otters: Pond Dipping 10-11am. Start off the summer with a splash and see just what friendly faces are under the waves. Ages 4-7.June 18: Archery 10-11:30am. Opportunity to use NASP equipment for target archery. Ages 6+.June 23: Back to Basics: Fire Science 10-11:30am. Learn about ways fire is useful for people and for nature. Get some hands-on practice with skills needed to safely build and maintain a fire all by yourself. Ages 7-11.June 23: Beginner Guide to Turkey Hunting 6-8pm. Calling all turkey’s! Come dressed in natural colors and we’ll delve into the life of a turkey. Try your best turkey call, practice setting up decoys and safe firearm handling! All ages.

June 25: Owl Talk 6-7pm. This program offers a close-up, casual setting to talk about all things owls. Owl Talk is limited to 10 people who will be invited to sit in a roundtable format for a Q & A with our animal caretaker and one of Marsh Haven Nature Center’s educational owls. Registration is required. $10 per person.June 26: Reptiles Rock! 6-8pm. What makes a reptile a reptile? Head out in search of some familiar scale covered creatures. June 27: Horicon Marsh Paddle 7-12:30pm. Enjoy the paddling trail at the Horicon Marsh Wildlife Area. Talk with interpreters stationed throughout the marsh to learn more! More details at www.horiconmarsh.org. Free shuttle. June 27: Purple Martin Fest 9am-4pm. Wisconsin Purple Martin Association holds Purple Martin Fest 2020 at Marsh Haven Nature Center. Free event.June 30: Little Otters: Snakes, Turtles and Frogs 10-11am. Slither, hop, and crawl on over as we get some up-close time with these summer loving critters in their natural habitat. Ages 4-7.July 7: Back to Basics: Meet a Tree 10-11:30am. Learn some tricks for recognizing some of Wisconsin’s most common trees. Ages 7-11.July 7: Beginners Guide to Pheasant Hunting6-8pm. Come watch how dogs work a field, learn how to hunt with a dog and discover how to hunt this bird that “tastes like chicken”. All ages.July 10: Horicon Marsh Sunset Paddle 6:30-8:30pm. Enjoy the night sounds and colorful sunset on the marsh. Pre-registration and fee required at www.horiconmarsh.org. Limit 20.July 14, 15, 16: Horicon Marsh Kids Summer Day Camp 8am-12pm. A summer day camp program for children aged 7-12. Registration and payment required at www.horiconmarsh.org.July 14: Little Otters: Nature Art 10-11am. Leaves, twigs and stones can become art with a little bit of imagination. Ages 4-7.July 16: Stories at the Marsh: Tree Frogs 10-11am. Would you like to live in a tree? Let’s learn about this amazing amphibian through stories and activities. Ages 3-7.July 18: Anniversary Party 3-8pm. Open house style event with food and entertainment. Go to horiconmarsh.org for details! July 21: Back to Basics: Map and Compass 10-11:30am. Find your way from one place to another without the help of a phone. Ages 7-11.July 21: Beginner Guide to Waterfowl Hunting 6-8pm. Join local Horicon waterfowl hunters to build your own duck calls, practice decoy placement and learn about zones of fire. All ages.

July 23: Archery 10-11:30am. Opportunity to use NASP equipment for target archery. Please arrive on time to receive safety instructions. Ages 6+.July 24: Sunset Voyageur Canoe Paddle 6:30-8:30pm. Enjoy the night sounds of the marsh in a voyageur canoe! Pre-registration and fee required at www.horiconmarsh.org. Limit 14.July 28: Little Otters: Animal Olympics 10-11am. Come experience this animal challenge crash course. Ages 4-7.July 31: Bugs, Bats and Beyond 6-8pm. This evening is dedicated to creeping, crawling, and flying critters. Games and activities!August 4: Back to Basics: Survival Shelters 10-11:30am. Work with a small team to test out your building skills Ages 7-11. August 4: Beginner Guide to Deer Hunting 6-8pm. Oh deer! Come climb into a tree stand, practice your aim and learn about how to harvest your own meat. All ages.August 11: Little Otters: Beautiful Bugs 10-11am. Beautiful butterflies, dazzling dragonflies, and brilliant beetles. Ages 4-7. August 11: Beginner Guide to Small Game Hunting 6-8pm. Small game animals are among the most commonly harvested, and best tasting, of all game in WI. Learn about strategies for pursuing and cooking squirrels and rabbits. All ages.August 13: Stories at the Marsh: Diary of a Fly 10-11am. “Shoo fly, don’t bother me!” Come experience a day in the life of this pesky creature through stories and activities. Ages 3-7.August 15: Archery 10-11:30am. Opportunity to use NASP equipment for target archery. Please arrive on time for safety instructions. Ages 6+.August 18: Back to Basics: Nature Play 10-11:30am. Get out and move through games that will have you exploring, running, hiding, and jumping. Ages 7-11.August 19: Butterflies and Dragonflies 10-11:30am. Take a walk and see how many species of dragonflies and butterflies you can spot. Best for people of all ages.August 28: Crepuscular Crawl: Marsh After Dark 7-9pm. Celebrate the end of summer with a good old-fashioned night hike. August 21: Guided Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area Paddle 8am-12pm. Guided paddle of HMSWA. Pre-registration & fee required. August 22: Summer Wild Women Workshop 9am-1pm. Focused on outdoor skills for women 18+. Register at www.horiconmarsh.org. Limit 15.August 27: Monarch Tagging 10am-12pm. Presentation and then go outside to catch monarchs and watch as DNR staff tag these magnificent migrants.
