HoriconWelcome to

Welcome to Horicon! We’re glad you’re here. Horicon boasts a rich history unique to our area that includes pre-historic Paleo-hunters and wooly mammoths, Native American hunters and tribes, European trappers and settlers and Agricultural industrialism. These days, though, you’re more likely to find us on one of the many recreational trails through the area, enjoying a fabulous concert in the park, or enjoying a night out at one of the area’s incredible restaurants. One of the things that we like best about Horicon is its close proximity to larger urban areas (Milwaukee, Madison and the Fox Valley) while still being rural enough to enjoy a much lower tax base and the natural beauty of the internationally renowned Horicon Marsh. We’re incredibly easy to get to from the Hwy. 33 corridor off of WI 151 and 41 and are ideally situated in the center of Wisconsin’s industrial, technological and medical centers. While you’re here we encourage you to explore the “neighborhood of the marsh” whose cities include Horicon, Mayville, Waupun, Beaver Dam, Juneau and Hustisford. Each city complements the others with their own individual offerings of art, culture, culinary delights and festivals. Together we offer an urban escape to which you will look forward to returning to time and time again. We look forward to seeing you here!

Come See TheNew Explorium!

Now Open

The Great Hunting Ground Visitors have a unique opportunity to travel through time as they explore some of the exciting new features on display at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. Long before Horicon Marsh achieved international status as an important bird and wildlife area and a destination for outdoor recre-ation, glaciers carved a basin where a wetland would one day form. Today, guests of Horicon Marsh’s Explorium can get a glimpse of life at Horicon Marsh thousands of years before European settlement and witness how the current wetland came to be. The experience is narrated by a Clovis point (spear head), that keeps visitors company throughout the journey as they view, listen to, touch, and even smell exhibits that document the changes to the marsh over time.Videos and interactive displays greet guests at every turn, encouraging audiences of any age to learn more about the history and ecology of Horicon Marsh. A wooly mammoth replica that children are free to touch and climb represents wildlife that roamed the land during the Ice Age and also served as an important food source for early Native Americans.

Relics from the age of European settlement as well as modern hunting and trapping equipment illustrate the marsh’s popularity as a waterfowl hunting site. Games encourage visitors to learn about wildlife identification. Viewers can also gain a singularly thrilling perspective on the management and conservation activities currently occurring on the marsh before heading out to enjoy it for themselves. These exhibits are just a taste of the many educational themes the new Explorium features.

Wisconsin welcomes you to the romantic Honeybee Inn Bed and Breakfast in Horicon! Honeybee Inn is just 45 minutes from Mil-waukee, Madison, and Oshkosh Wisconsin. We are 25 minutes from West Bend, WI and 10 min-utes from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. The Honeybee Inn Bed &

Breakfast in Horicon Wisconsin is the perfect place for romantic getaways, wedding accommoda-tions, birding, reunions, business stays, anniversaries or just to enjoy the superb Horicon Marsh Wildlife area in Dodge County.

“The old house is quite beautiful with origi-nal woodwork and stained glass. Along our way to the room, the innkeeper explained that there was complimentary sodas and microwave popcorn in the common area along with a wide array of DVDs. Before

handing over our old-fashioned skeleton key to our room, she asked what time we would

be down for breakfast so that it would be ready when we were ready, a great personal

SeaSaw is the alliance of two souls that push and pull in combination to produce a sound that is charismatic

and powerful, yet deceptively simple. SeaSaw blends a compelling arrangement of instruments with

distinct harmonies to create a charming and innovative folk-pop sound.

SEASAW

Called a "Two man wrecking crew" by Classic Rock Magazine The Monday Specials are a Milwaukee-based hard rock duo out to prove any day of the week can rock.

THISTLEDOWNTHUNDERS

There's a new band on the Rockabilly/Swing circuit in town, and it's The Get Hot. The band, which has just issued it's first CD, includes four veteran musicians that have worked in a variety of local groups and is now firmly focused on blending the best of American roots music - from blues to rockabilly to western swing to jazz - into a toe tapping sound designed to get you out of your seat.

Thistledown Thunders are a collaboration of musicians from

Milwaukee's diverse music scene. Playing throughout Southeastern Wisconsin and drawing influences from folk and bluegrass both old

and new, Thistledown Thunder's dulcet ballads and screaming fiddle

tunes are sure to get your toes tapping and boots stomping!

KYLE MEGNAAND THE

MONSOONS

It started back around 2006 in Milwaukee, WI. In the diverse, artistic, "bohemian" neighborhood known as Riverwest, forgotten accordions made their way out of musty basements and into the hands of some eager, fun, creative people with a dream... a dream to connect Milwaukee's roots to its future... a dream to create something vital, communal and FUN!!

Kyle Megna And The Monsoons is a Wisconsin band with an ever-growing following, locally and beyond. A tight-knit group of accomplished, charismatic musicians with diverse backgrounds, their "dark-indie-blues-folk-rock-feel" is a magnetic force that's ever-charged with surges with creativity and artistic experimentation. Fused with a healthy dose of spontineity and humor, Kyle Megna and the Monsoons channel can't-get-enough energy that's good for the soul.

CAJUNSTRANGERS

Auralai is fronted by Stephanie Tschech and her beloved cello, Cranky Agnes, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist, Nate Lehner (base, guitar, mandolin)

and sometimes graced with the tasteful percussive work of Namiah Tribolini. Stephanie, originallly a classically trained cellist, strayed from her roots to

evolve into an indie/pop singer/songwriter, using Cranky Agnes as a multi-instrument with a combination of plucking, strumming and bowing.

With Nate's swooning guitar parts and moving bass lines, Auralai is sure to steal (or break) your heart.

Based in Madison, Wisconsin, The Cajun Strangers have been playing the music of the Cajun culture of Southwest Louisiana since 2001. This

accordion and fiddle driven music is a traditional style that is still heard every night of the week in the dancehalls, bars, clubs, and festivals of

Louisiana. The dancing starts with their first note and ends long in to the night when Cajun Strangers play Horicon!

MOUNTAIN

AUGUST 3

ME LIKE BEES

“The Brothers Burn Mountain are a duo of electric guitar and drums playing blues-infused music, like The Black Keys but different. Swirling harmonies are set atop fast rhythms, drums are synced up or pulled perfectly away from guitar riffs--it’s tight but not stiff, locked but not robotic. Seeing them play is definitely a hypnotic treat.” - Brad Nelson from The Duluth Brews Tribune

Me Like Bees is an American Indie Rock band hailing from the heart of Joplin, Missouri. Formed in 2009 the band has traveled thousands of miles and played hundreds of shows across the nation. By 2013, they released their first full length record “The Ides”, which received rave reviews by many internet media outlets. Me Like Bees is always touring and making new fans wherever there’s a venue to take them. They have a passion for writing witty songs wit complex but catchy melodies. Keep an ear to the ground for them as they finish their second full-length album next year.

Est. 2011 in Milwaukee, The Fainting Room’s sound is acoustic singer-songwriter meets Americana twang and harmonies meets

screaming rock guitar solos. It’s a potent and dynamic mashup of the genres that influence the band as individuals and as a group. Bringing

together members of Milwaukee’s most talented bands, The Fainting Room is one of Horicon’s perennial favorites.

Raised on Bible Hymns by her preacher father, Dead Horses frontwoman Sarah Vos’ backstory sounds more like that of an old bluesman from the

Mississippi Delta than a young folk singer from Wisconsin. Vos’ gospel, living free and unapologetically, is supported with conviction by Peter

Raboin on acoustic guitar and Daniel Wolff on double bass. And despite their youth, the Milwaukee-based folk trio has crafted a timeless

sound, informed as much by modern folk as it is by the classics.

AUGUST 24OLD SALT UNION

Old Salt Union is known for playing music by their own set of rules. While the men who make up the group are not complete rebels, they are certainly

focused on exposing people to a purer, more exciting, and more original form of music. What makes Old Salt Union special is their ability to further explore

the jazz and blues roots of bluegrass in a mature and refreshing manner. With in-depth musical compositions, a catchy hook, and a high- energy

metaphorical punch to the gut, they are truly front runners in the new generation of string music.

No One Needs to Know Our Name seems like an unlikely statement for an independent band in 2015, but its sentiment is neither ironic nor defeatist. It’s more of a personal manifesto for Chicago-based Fort Frances. In an age of hyper-connectivity and public oversharing, frontman and chief lyricist, David McMillin, says, “This is a reminder that we are all allowed to shut out the noise.”

“The WhiskeyBelles is not your typical Milwaukee band. Not even taking into account the band’s entirely female populace, the outfit expertly toes the line of talented original act

and more than capable cover band. Its upbeat and experienced melding of country, folk and Americana proves a welcome resident to dive bars and massive outdoor

festivals alike. And at the tender age of two, the trio has managed to garner growing consideration from local promoters… not to mention a few Wisconsin Area
