HOOK LINE & SINKERHOOK LINE & SINKERHOOK LINE & SINKER
I now feel like a seasoned RV-er having recently completed a 2400 mile trip through Montana, Idaho, and ended up at June Lake with
the Senior Anglers. My rig stopped in the middle of the road on a curve in the Virgin River Gorge. A hair raising experience. After about 30 minutes the rig started up again and away we went. It made us appre-ciate caravanning with others. Their help (physical, knowledgeable, and supportive) got us through it. A clogged fuel filter and water in the gas tank seemed to be the problem. We’re now entering the active trout season, so things will be picking up for the club. Lakes Cuyamaca and Hemet are on the books as well as the opening of Dixon, Wohlford, and Poway. Sign-ups to work the Trout Derby at Dixon, November 11 – 13, will occur at this coming meeting. Besides fishing, three other activities are set: 1.The Turkey Fry and Silent Auction, Wednesday November 2nd. This next meeting will be the last meeting you have to sign up. If you miss this meeting you will have to contact Bob and Alice Lage to get on the list and know what to bring. Silent Auction items can be brought to the picnic itself. Jim and Mary Roy will be running the auction. 2. Our Awards Banquet is Tuesday, December 6th at The Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. This new location will make for elegant din-ing. Be sure to mark this date on your calendar. This private golf club is located just east of the Rancho Bernardo Inn and golf course. 3. The Viejas Casino trip date has been set for Wednesday February 1st, 2012. Mark this date down also. More information on it will be in our November Newsletter. Our Nominating Committee is still developing a slate of people to serve on the Board for next year. Be responsive to them if asked to serve. Better yet, let them know of your interest to be on the Board. It’s fun, interesting, easy, keeps you in-the-know, and provides a means of keeping our club vibrant and healthy.
Keep your feet dry and lines wet.

LOCAL BAIT AND TACKLE STORE OWNER TO DISCUSS WHAT IS NEW IN THE FISHING FIELD FOR SUCCESSFUL FISHING
What’s new in the Bait and Tackle field? To discover the answer, members of the Senior Anglers of Escondido have invited Pat Martin, owner of Pat’s Bait and Tackle in Vista, to share his knowledge and experience with the club at the meeting on Friday, October 21. Pat worked at the Hubbs-Sea World Research Institute marine fish hatchery in Carlsbad in the early years and later was an employee at several other bait and tackle shops in North County. He contin-
ued to make connections with the industry and eventually opened his own shop in Vista. The shop has grown to a full line of impressive high-end freshwater plastics as well as popular baits for bass hunters such as the locally pro-duced Mattlures swimbaits. He has a full array of trolling lures for everything from albacore to marlin, iron jigs, and a wide selection of bulk line that can be put on the reels while you wait. But the best reason to visit Pat’s Bait and Tackle is to talk to Pat himself. He is a well-rounded angler with a wealth of knowledge from marlin fishing to fly-fishing. If not in the store, you can bet he is out on some kind of fishing trip.
Pat will speak at the Senior Anglers of Escondido at the October 21 meeting at the Joslyn Center in Escondido at 9:30 AM. The club is open to the public and meets the third Friday of each month.

We still need people to bring gravy, cran-

Jim and Mary Roy will be in charge of the

Lake Cahuilla January 22-27
We’ll kick off our camping again this year with our trip to the desert. It is over by Indio. Dave and Sandy Martinez will be Wagon Masters. You will need to make your own reservations. Contact Riverside County Parks either by phone (800) 234-7275 or internet. Better hurry to get a choice site.
Lake Morena February 19-24
The lake of big fish and cheap boat rental. Wagon Mistress will be Cheryl Brandstrom. Another time you will need to make your own reservation through San Diego County Parks ( 877) 565-3600 or internet. Be sure and ask about a senior discount.
Upcoming trips
Pinezanita/Lake Cuyamaca October 9-14
This trip will be headed up by Larry and Betty Allen. This is a great campground, usually good fishing and hiking. Nice and close. Consider a day trip if you can’t stay the week.
Lake Hemet November 6-11
This will be our last outing of the year. This will be headed up by Carl & Dottie Arnold, they’re taking signups now. It is fairly close (about 80 miles from Escondido), and last chance for those great potlucks.
TRIP REPORT
Pinecliff/June Lake September 7-14
This was another great trip to the Sierras. As usual there was lots of good food, hiking, fishing for the men, and sew-ing for the ladies. We had a lot of rain in the afternoons (even a little hail), but the mornings were beautiful. The rain was mostly gone for meals and campfire.
Lots of trout were caught; around 250 (some did not get entered in the log and some not in the derby). The biggest by guess who? That’s right, Warren Estes, with a 3 lb. 11 oz. rainbow. Daily winners were Jim Stevenson (a beautiful 1.5 brown), Gene Lovelady, Warren of course and myself.
If you missed this trip, you should seriously consider next year’s trip. I think this is our highlight trip of the year. Gorgeous scenery and so many lakes and streams to fish.

SEPTEMBER, 2011 SALTWATER REPORT
Saltwater fishing has been up and down along with the water temp this year.
The boats have been coming in with limits on some of the longer range boats and spotty on the ¾ day boats. Still worth going out for a meal.
The October 2 1/2 day Dominator trip is full since the water tempera-ture has gone up and the fish are biting hot and heavy.
The next trip is a 11/2 day trip Nov 11-13. Sign up now. Call Paul Montgomery (760) 941-9064.
