And this has lead us to develop some of the world’s most revolutionary technologies, including advanced petrol engines, petrol-electric hybrids, hydrogen fuel-cells and to help improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.

At Honda we strive to reduce our environmental footprint in everything we do. Because the only mark we want to leave on the environment is beautiful blue skies.

Civic Hybrid.

The Civic Hybrid is our Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV), powered by Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system. IMA combines the use of a petrol engine and an electric motor to boost performance, cut fuel consumption and

slash emissions. The Hybrid has a lighter, more powerful engine and electric motor producing a combined 85 kW @ 6000 rpm. This makes it the most powerful Hybrid available. But surprisingly, while the power is up,

the fuel consumption is down, with an outstanding fuel economy of 21.74km per liter*. Civic Hybrid also boasts a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), which provides even greater fuel economy benefits by helping the

engine stay in its most efficient operating mode. And, astoundingly, the Civic Hybrid can run on electric power alone at speeds under 40 km/h, creating no emissions at all.

The first everhybrid sports car.

The CR-Z is a lightweight hybrid sports car equipped with our original petrol-electric hybrid system. It delivers a powerful, high-level performance you’d expect from any Honda sports car, and also utilises our low emission technology to reduce its impact on the environment.

In other words, it’s a true sports car with a conscience. The CR-Z, which stands for “Compact Renaissance Zero,” sports an aggressive over-sized grill, LED headlights and 19-inch wheels. On the inside, a sophisticated and spacious interior features blue-neon lit gauges on what can only be

described as a glass artwork background. Both the interior and exterior have been designed to enhance the overall driving experience and to also give it a real feel of exhilaration. This means that just because the CR-Z is environmentally friendly, it doesn’t make it any less of a sports car.

FCX Clarity.Our Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Technology.

The FCX Clarity is a next-generation, hydrogen powered fuel-cell vehicle that emits only one thing, H2O. With improved driving range, power, weight and efficiency, it boasts a low-slung, dynamic and sophisticated appearance previously unachievable in a fuel cell vehicle.

Based entirely on our new V Flow fuel-cell platform, the FCX Clarity is powered by the highly compact, powerful, yet efficient Honda V Flow fuel-cell stack which operates as the vehicle’s main power source. It also utilises an efficient lithium ion battery pack and a single hydrogen storage

The world’s first hydrogen vehicle in production.tank to power the vehicle’s electric drive motor. So when hydrogen combines with atmospheric oxygen in the fuel-cell stack, the chemical energy from the reaction is converted into electric power, which is then used to propel the vehicle. Also, the additional energy captured through

regenerative braking and deceleration is stored in the lithium ion battery pack, and used to supplement power from the fuel-cell, when needed. And the great news is, in 2008 the FCX Clarity will be the first ever hydrogen vehicle in production.

Our i-VTEC Technology.

Honda vehicles, which is great news for the environment. But as if that wasn’t enough, we’ve even included a 5-speed automatic transmission as standard on all these vehicles

to not only optimise their overall performance, but to improve their fuel efficiency as well. So as you can see, it really isn’t that difficult to start making a difference today.

Our i-VTEC engine was specifically designed to deliver outstanding power whenever and wherever you need it, while still being remarkably fuel efficient. This is all thanks

to its innovative new valve control timing, which regulates the valve opening to match engine speed. The best part is, you will find an i-VTEC engine in a whole range of our

speed cruising and not-so-steep hills, the engine shifts to four cylinders. And for moderate speed cruising and at low engine loads, only three cylinders are needed.

So in other words, it can achieve extraordinarily low emissions and high fuel efficiency while still giving you maximum power.

The Accord V6 comes with our revolutionary new Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology. It’s so intelligent it can switch effortlessly between six, four and even three

cylinders whenever circumstances require. So when you need a lot of power like during start-ups and tackling steep hills, all six cylinders fire into gear. But for higher

It’s one thing to create products that have the lowest CO2 emissions. But to produce these products at manufacturing plants that also have the lowest CO2 emissions is also one of our dreams. So we’ve set ourselves new global CO2 reduction targets for our products and production activities in order to make sure we meet our future goal.

As a company we realise that there’s more to reducing the threat of global warming than just reducing CO2 emissions, that is why we are also focused on developing energy-creating products such as our next-generation solar cells. Our solar cells consume approximately 50% less energy, than conventional crystal silicon solar cells, during manufacturing. Instead of silicon, we use a thin film made

from a compound of copper, indium, gallium and selenium (CIGS). This makes our solar cells more environmentally responsible even during the production stage. Honda Soltec, our wholly-owned solar cell subsidiary, is now mass producing our solar cells for homes throughout Japan with further plans to start exporting in the future.
