02 Homebid magazine

Welcome to Homebid MagazineA new way to help you find a home in Southampton Homebid gives you more choice about where you want to live. In the past you waited on the Housing list until a property was selected by the council. Now you decide which properties you would like to be considered for.

If you are currently waiting on the city council’s Housing List, you should have already received a letter about Homebid and how you can obtain a User Guide at Gateway. The User Guide contains all of the information that you need to know in order to “bid” for your new home.

Every fortnight SCC produces this free magazine, Homebid Magazine, distributed at various points across the city, which advertises almost all the available homes. You can look at the adverts and decide whether you want to be considered for any of the properties.

You express your interest in properties by making a bid for them. A summary of how you can bid for properties can be found in the Homebid User Guide which you can obtain at Gateway.

You will not be able to bid on properties in the Homebid Magazine until you have been accepted onto the Housing List.

If you would like to find out more about Homebid, you could contact the Allocations Advice Line on 023 8083 2777, Gateway Southampton at One Guildhall Square.

Further contact details can be found in the Homebid User Guide and also at www.southampton.gov.uk/homebid.

Coming soon: The first phase of Centenary Quay: Victoria RoadSituated on the former Vospers site in Woolston; this is an area with over 100 years of shipbuilding history. It is now being redeveloped to offer a mixed use scheme of residential, community and leisure facilities and a high quality accessible waterfront with areas of green open space.

Our Housing Association Partner Radian will shortly advertise the first phase of homes for bidding. There will be 18 two bedroom houses each with a parking space but no visitor parking. The homes will be available to existing council and housing association tenants who are in need of this size of home and are on the councils housing list.

The homes have a combined heat and power system and residents will take out an agreement with E-On for the supply of heating and hot water however there will be no pre-payment meters and there is no gas supply.

They are also subject to a special lettings plan and will be offered to tenants who have looked after their home and have been a good neighbour. Therefore, before any offer is made there will be a check of your tenancy history to see is there has been any anti-social behaviour or rent arrears. A home visit to your current property will also be carried out to check its condition and that you have maintained it to an acceptable standard. This standard is called the “Moving Out” standard, a copy of which can be found on the council’s website. www.southampton.gov.uk /living/housing/tenants.

This will apply to both council and housing association tenants.

To express your interest in these new council homes please see the adverts in this edition and make a bid. The homes are due for completion in April. As this is an ongoing regeneration scheme there will be ongoing building works for the foreseeable future.
