    arkings. I assume that these references

    hould actually refer to faerie drakes.

    Now, if a 12-HD rainbow dragon with 96 hp

    maximum) came along and it was slain, it would

    e worth 772,800 xp! Youd have to kill Asmo-

    #146. The cobra dragons venom reduces a

    characters strength by half. Would that include

    magical strength, such as from a girdle of giant

    Cobra dragon venom would not affect magicalstrength gained from a potion or girdle, thoughif the character using such strength-boosterslost the effects of the potion or took off thegirdle, his normal strength score would bereduced by half. If the character was under the

    effects of a strength spell when he was bitten,reduce his normal strength score by half, then

    add the amount of strength he gained from thespell to get his new strength score.

    Recently I got issue #144 and almost immedi-

    ately found a big mistake. In the review of Ral

    Parthas Regimental Command Lance [Through

    the Looking Glass], you stated that the recon

    Mech was an Ostscout. It isnt. Its a 60-ton

    Ostsol. So offense.

    Here we go: When the review column arrived,we checked it against a copy of FASAs BATTLE-TECH Technical Readout 3025. We did not have

    the Regimental Command Lance figure set,however. The smallest Mech in the figure set

    was identified as an Oscout, but there is noOscout in the Technical Readout 3025. There

    is, however, an Ostscout. We thought the re-viewer had made an error and so corrected it.

    As fate would have it, the boxed set does

    indeed identify its smallest Mech as an Oscout,but the Ostscout in the book does not look verymuch like the figure in the boxed set. As welater learned, the Technical Readout 3025 wasitself in error; as it had reversed its pictures ofthe Ostscout and the Ostsol. (Note that theOstsol is said to be capable of punching otherMechs but the picture of that Mech on page79 of that book has no hands; also compare the

    Weapons and Ammo descriptions with thepictures on pages 29 and 79.) Thus, the smallest

    miniature in the Regimental Command Lance isreally, an Ostscout after all we think.

The Gazetteeris also humorously illustrated by Jim Hol-loway; anyone who has seen West EndGames PARANOIA game will be familiarwith Holloways fun-filled art, and here hedoes an excellent job of capturing theflavor of humanoid life.

    So, what do we get in The Orcs of Thar?First comes the Players Guide, providingan introduction to the Broken Lands and ahumanoid character generation system forplayers and DMs. The Players Guide gives

    frequently scornful of the threats posedby humanoid opponents. As a conse-quence, humanoids are encountered onlyin very large numbers or not at all. Withthese new rules, humanoids are going toearn a lot more respect from human anddemi-human adventurers. That bunch oforcs up ahead could easily be a party of8th-level NPCs out for some action. Areyou sure you want to mess with them?

    Humanoids are renowned for their loveof battle and mindless slaughter, and foracting in an obnoxious fashion. To helpthem maintain such high standards ofbehavior, Thars Manual of Good Conducthas been prepared. This comes as part ofthe Players Guide but is intended to bepulled out of the booklet, chopped up, andstapled into a smaller booklet that de-scribes life in the humanoid army. Thishumorous booklet gets players and DMsinto the right mood for engaging in hu-manoid role-playing.

    The Dungeon Masters Booklet continueswith the same overall flavor as the PlayersGuide. Here, the DM gets the real historyof the humanoids and the details on the

    major NPCs active in the Broken Lands. Italso includes new rules for playing sha-mans and wiccas. These nonhuman spell-casters were first described in the D&DMaster Set; they are the clerics and magic-users of the humanoid races. By dedicat-ing themselves to one of the humanoid
