We also tend a number of other spaces in London, including Brompton Cemetery, the gardens of 10, 11 and 12 Downing Street, and Grosvenor Square Gardens.

Keeping 5,000 acres of urban parkland stocked with trees and other plants is no small task. We have our own nursery to meet the demand, and a dedicated team of plantsmen and Parks staff keep the Parks looking great all year round.

Part of our remit is to conserve the Parks for future generations. We have a "Green Housekeeping Committee", which looks at how we can reduce the impact we have on the local and wider environment. We also have an Ecology team, who advise on habitat management, sustainability, and biodiversity.

The Royal Parks is an executive agency of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Ministerial Relationship

The Royal Parks is an Executive Agency of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The Parks are owned by the Monarch in right of the Crown. The Secretary of State has overall responsibility for the management of the parks. The Chief Executive of The Royal Parks (Linda Lennon) is responsible for operational decisions.

Structure

The Royal Parks currently employs approximately 120 staff, with half based in HQ and the rest in the individual parks. Our headquarters is in the Old Police House, Hyde Park. There is a park office and police station in each park.

Much of the work carried out within the Royal Parks such as grounds, works and tree maintenance is contracted out. Many of the services provided for the public in the Parks - catering, boating, deck chairs and some sports (golf, tennis, bowling, swimming in the Serpentine) - are carried out by licence concessionaires.

Responsibility for policing the parks rests with the Metropolitan Police Service.

Grade and Salary: Grade I

Relationships: Responsible to Filming Manager, no responsibility for staff

Main purpose of the job:

The Filming Officer will support the Filming Manager in running a busy filming office, receiving and processing applications for filming and photography and ensuring that filming and photography shoots are co-ordinated and managed to a high and consistent standard.

The Filming Officer will also work closely with the Head of Events and the wider team, providing support to the programme of the major events taking place in The Royal Parks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Dealing with general public enquiries about events and filming, by email and telephone.

2. Receiving filming and photography enquiries and applications and responding to these effectively and to short timescales.

3. Gathering all appropriate information about filming and photography applications, providing general advice and guidance to enquirers and applicants; sign-posting the relevant park contacts and on-line filming documentation.

4. Making judgements about the level at which requests should be dealt with and referring them to the Filming Manager, Press, Park Managers and Park offices when appropriate.

5. Ensuring that Park Managers and other relevant Royal Parks’ staff are consulted about applications when necessary and are briefed about forthcoming shoots.

6. Planning film shoots in consultation with the Filming Manager and Park Managers. This includes initial discussions, fee negotiations and logistical arrangements, liaison with local community groups, maximising publicity opportunities and relevant contractual paperwork.

7. Liaise with the Filming Manager about procedures, policy, and contractual issues as required.

8. Initiate meetings and briefing sessions with location managers and their colleagues and contractors as necessary.

9. Assessing filming applications from a health & safety perspective and providing advice or instruction to production companies, in consultation with Filming Manager or Park Managers, in order to ensure that filming is carried out safely.

10.Negotiating the terms and conditions under which filming can take place, including negotiating fees, in consultation with the Filming Manager.

11.Drafting and issuing contracts and agreements for filming, reports, summaries and other correspondence as may be required.

19.Finance management and debt recovery for the filming section. This includes ensuring that all costs are recovered, where appropriate chase outstanding monies or additional costs post shoot.

20.Creating and keeping accurate records about filming and photography shoots and taking responsibility for their administration.

21.Providing up to date records about filming and photography shoots to the Filming Manager for financial and statistical reporting.

22.Provide support to the Events & Filming team as required.
