October 18 Kovtun and Lugovoi fly to Moscow, on Transaero
25 26October 25 Lugovoi arrives in London on BA Flight 875. Polonium later detected on aircraft. Stays at the Sheraton Park Lane and Litvinenko visits him. Radiation is later found
October 26 Lugovoi says he met Litvinenko in the hotel lobby and again in the bar on the following evening before flying back to Moscow on BA the day after that
October 28 to October 30 Kovtun on Aeroflot flight from Moscow to Hamburg — Russians later say no polonium was found on board. Visits former wife, Marina Wall, in Hamburg. Traces of polonium-210 later found in ex-wife’s apartment, in a clothes shop and in former mother-in-law's flat
October 30Kovtun leaves radiation at an immigration bureau, in a restaurant and a gambling club
October 31 Lugovoi comes to London on BA Flight 872 with his wife and son to watch the Arsenal-CSKA Moscow match — polonium later detected on plane
November 3 Lugovoi and family return to Moscow
November 4 After three days of sickness Litvinenko is admitted to Barnet General Hospital
November 23 Litvinenko dies in University College Hospital
November 30Inquest confirms he died from radiation poisoning
December 1Mario Scaramella tests positive for polonium-210
December 4Scotland Yard team flies to Moscow to interview witnesses including Lugovoi and Kovtun. Two days later announces it is treating the case as murder
December 7 Litvinenko buried at Highgate cemetery
January 26, 2007 Guardian report names Lugovoi as a suspect
May 22Crown Prosecution Service says there is enough evidence to charge Lugovoi with murder and that it will apply to extradite him from Russia

12 noon Litvinenko arrives in central London by car buying a newspaper near Piccadilly Circus. The car later tested negative for radiation3pm Meets academic Mario Scaramella at Itsu and receives documents 4pm Hurries to Boris Berezovsky's office in 7 Down Street. Shows documents and photocopies them. Radiation later found on photocopying machine. At some point he also visits Erinys4.30pm Litvinenko meets Lugovoi and Kovtun at Pine Bar, Millennium hotel in Grosvenor Square ahead of the Arsenal match. Kovtun and Lugovoi went to Pescatori on the same day. Radiation later detected at the Emirates stadium and among staff at the Pine BarLater, Litvinenko complains of feeling sick and spends the night vomiting at his home in Osier Crescent
