Sinceramente,

Sra. Abby Sacco, Directora

Technology

Digital citizenship is a new and important skill to have in our ever-evolving technical world. Teachers in grades K-5 at Rolling Ridge have been working hard the first half of the year to introduce some important skills to help your students become responsible digital citizens. These important conversations and lessons should continue at home as well. It is very important for your students to know that you care about their safety and behavior online and with technology.

Please check out www.commonsensemedia.org for resources that you can use to help further yours and your student’s understanding of what a responsible and respectful digital citizen looks like. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Spessard as well. She would be more than happy to help you in any way she can!

Please remember to check out twitter and search for #stemsuperstars for what is happening day to day in STEM Lab! Feel free to email any of us if you have questions!

Physical Eduation

December was a productive month for students participating in class. The five food groups were taught daily and students are more informed about some of the foods that belong in each food group. Nutrition cards with pictures, food group colors, and nutritional content were used often to help teach the food groups.

The five food groups will carry over into January as students use “poppers” to learn nutrition. It’s important for children to learn about everyday foods vs. sometimes foods since they will eventually purchase groceries. Hopefully, our Roadrunners will use the information they’ve learned to make some healthy decisions in the school cafeteria and at home.

This month in physical education class students will focus their activity time on rolling. Although there are a plethora of games/activities for this unit students will be rolling and bowling with content integrated into the lessons. Unplugged coding lessons will be taught. These lessons will prepare our Roadrunners with the tools needed to be successful in computer science. Specifically, looping will be emphasized. Students will use “looping” task cards that will focus on nutrition and fitness.

Educacion Fisica

Thanks for Your Support of the Rolling Ridge Library

ENCHANTED FOREST BOOK FAIR!

Our ENCHANTED FOREST BOOK FAIR was a great success with over $6,000 of books sold to students, families and staff of Rolling Ridge Elementary School. In additional, our book fair supplied 124 free book coupons for students and 58 gift certificates for teachers!

Our students were very excited about the Enchanted Forest theme and helped create our Library Dragon by

making a magical book scale that included their favorite books and book genres. Be sure to ask your student what book they wrote on their dragon scale.

A big THANK YOU also goes to our students & families that purchased books for their classroom libraries. Everyone also helped by donating their change to ALL FOR BOOKS to help purchase new books for the library.

Having new and up-to-date titles makes a real difference in improving student reading levels, so book fair proceeds will be used to add new books to the library for all students to enjoy. Look for the Book Fair New Books display in January to checkout some of our new titles!

In other news, the ROLLING RIDGE LIBRARY is very excited to have a PTA parent volunteer this year. So far, our volunteer has provided help shelving book returns, labeling and stamping new books, as well as boxing up damaged and out-of-date books. If you would like to volunteer some of your time or talents in the library, please stop by or call us at 571-434-4540, for more information.

We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Happy New Year Roadrunner Families! Mrs. Huey and Mrs. Peterson are so excited to continue working with students through different school counseling lessons, small group counseling and individual counseling sessions. During the month of January, students will be exploring growth mindset. We will be encouraging students to think positively about their feelings and attitudes. The students will work on activities to change negative mindsets into positive ones. For example, instead of saying “this is too hard,” students are encouraged to say “I will try my best!” The students were also taught that their mindset (beliefs, feelings, attitudes) is always changing. Students explored that it is fine to make mistakes, especially if they learn from them.
