Victoria Cowie, an 11-year-old in Shropshire, England, was given anintelligence (IQ) test. She scored 162 which is higher than Albert Einsteinand Bill Gates who each tested at 160. Victoria is smart! The realquestion becomes—what will she do with what she has? The rest of us may not have an IQ of 162, but what will we do with ourgifts, talents, finances, or expertise? Jesus said, “Much more is requiredfrom the person to whom much more is given.”

Special Message of Encouragement and Love, submitted by John Hamilton

Editor’s note: We are sharing an excerpt from a devotional piece written byresident John Hamilton in May 2020. John introduces us to Susanna, a fictionalresident at Hermitage Richmond. Susanna has grown weary of living under Covidrestrictions but finds a way to have a heart full of love for others.

A Widow’s Might As always, Susanna ended her meal with a devotional from the Upper Room. This year it had just been habit. Today, though, something changed. The Scripture read: “Keep loving each other like family… .some have been hosts to angels withoutknowing it.” (Hebrews 13:1-2 CEB) Susanna heard a still small voice, not with herears, but with her heart. “Love each other like family,” it kept whispering. After all,she had taught that to her Sunday School children for years. She loved any andevery child she met. People told her constantly how loving she was.She remembered that her namesake Susanna Wesley once said, “I am content tofill a little space if God be glorified.” She resolved to fill her little space with love. First, she renewed her prayer list, adding all the team members and staff sheknew. Then she realized that she had always prayed for missionaries around theworld – and the world was here at Hermitage Richmond! She began to learnnames and home countries of team members born outside the U.S.She found herself smiling, and to her amazement, people smiled back. Susanna decided that she wanted to do something to help others who werefacing challenges during Covid. She learned, that while direct gifts are not allowed, there was the Angel Fund to help any member of the Hermitage Richmond familyin crisis – residents, team members, or volunteers. After further contemplation andprayer, Susanna decided to donate monthly to the Angel Fund, using the amountthat she often spent going out to eat at a nice restaurant. One morning, not long after that, she realized she no longer felt as cooped up asbefore. She had a heart full of love for the whole wide world, beginning right ather apartment door! If you would like to contribute to the Angel Fund, you make your contributionpayable to Hermitage Richmond Angel Fund and take it to the Business Office. Allcontributions are tax-deductible.
