Holy Trinity update from Fr Lorne

Six Weeks of Masses with the new protocols.

They told us it would be onerus, and it’s true! The guidelines for numbers attending, keeping records of who attends which Mass, health assessment questions, distancing and cleaning guidelines have been a heavy load. We have limited staff resources at Holy Trinity, and Val, Heather and Dominic have extended themselves to make it possible for you to return to Mass. Many thanks to them and also to our competent volunteer helpers on Sundays and weekdays to ensure the protocols are being followed.

This Sunday, we will welcome our largest group of worshippers of 36 people, including children, seated in all pews, including the south (un-upholstered) pews. We will be trying a different way to bring everyone to the eucharist table in an organized and timely fashion (by row, instead of by section).

Saturday 5 pm Mass suspended for July. For those of you who prefer this Mass time, we pray you will be able to come on Sunday morning at 10 am in order to help us get through the next few weeks. Registration through the of-fice (details on page 5).

You will notice the Archbishop’s July 3 letter of Clergy moves involves a change at Holy Trinity. More information about this October 1 change in the coming weeks.

Val will be emailing last year’s participants as well as families

with children in sacramental preparation.

Self-assessment Questions You will be asked the following when you book a weekend Mass, as well as when you arrive at Holy Trinity for any Mass:

Do you have COVID-19 or live with someone with COVID-19?

Have you been exposed to someone with COVID-19?

Are you sick, including even one of the slightest symptoms or feelings of sickness, especially upper respiratory or flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, headache, aches & pains, sore throat, chills, runny nose, loss of sense of taste or smell or shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?

Have you travelled outside of Regina in the past two weeks?

The upholstery at Holy Trinity is not able to be sanitized.

Pews on the south side of the church do not have upholstery and you may

request to sit there, providing they are available with proper distancing.

Scam Alert—if you receive an email from a priest, that asks you to contact them, be wary of replying There are a number of scams including ones purporting to be from Father Lorne. If you are unsure, call the office and delete the email without responding. Here’s one we received in the office Friday (with Heather’s name in the subject line) “Do you have a moment I have a request I need you to handle discreetly. I am currently busy in a meeting now, no calls so just reply to my email.” DELETE!

Mexico. Save your refundable bottles to donate to the

Cuernavaca Project in Mexico at any Sarcan location in Regina (glass

Registration for Kindergarten with Regina Catholic Schools for fall 2020 is on now! If your child was born in 2015, they’re eligible to begin Kindergarten in September 2020. To register, call the school nearest you. Have your child’s birth certificate, baptism certificate and provincial

Continue to Pray for those who were expecting to join the church at Easter, for those who have been preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion, and for parents of young children who attended baptism preparation classes in March. Plans for completion of sacraments of initiation (baptism, confirmation, and First Holy Communion) are being made and families will be contacted directly by Val.

Muffins For Marian Centre Donations of muffins welcomed. Package the muffins in a container or bag

that you do not want back and bring them to the marked

cart in the Holy Trinity Gathering Area. Muffins will be

picked up Friday morning (9:30 am).

If you prefer, you can take muffins directly to the Marian Centre at 1835 Halifax Street (back door in the alley).

Plastic containers for Carmichael Lunch Program—The Carmichael Centre has resumed providing a hot meal for those in need. They are serving between 150 - 200 meals a day and are very much in need of plastic containers in which to serve these meals. Clean margarine and yogurt containers (capacity of 2 cups or more) can be dropped off at the

church for pick up and delivery to the Carmichael Centre for their use.

Tanzania, African Project— For the last several years, the Holy Trinity CWL has assisted Dr. Pam Petruka by collecting items required for medical clinics, orphanages and schools in Africa and other third world countries. Due to COVID we were unable to gather items for Dr. Petruka to send where needed. However we can now resume collecting items such as big suit-cases, clothing and shoes - especially for children, blankets and school bags. AS WELL - Dr. Petruka was given numerous small cases that can be used in the orphanages as First-aid, School Supply or Sewing Kits.

Thank-you to everyone who has taken a kit to fill. There are still a couple of kits at the church office that can be picked up and filled if anyone would still like to assist with this project.

CWL executive, after careful consideration, decided to cancel the 2020 Trade & Craft Show to have been held in our parish hall on the weekend of Sept 25 & 26. With the current pandemic guidelines we feel it is safer for everyone to wait until next year. Thank you to everyone for your help in

Other Liturgy Changes—

Promptness—to ensure we can monitor who is

attending, the doors will be locked at the start of Mass.

This also allows us to provide the proper number of

hosts needed for that Mass.

Announcements will be done before Mass with

detailed instructions for Eucharist.

Singing is a high-risk activity so we will not have this

except for special music as we can fit this in safely.

Proclaimers of the Word—First Reading, Psalm and

Second Reading will all be proclaimed by the same

person. This will be done from a microphone at the

front, with care being taken to not share a microphone

within 72 hours of another person. The ambo (lectern)

and the microphone there are to be used only by

Father Lorne.

Collection—a collection box is inside the glass doors

for your donation instead of being collected from you

in the pew.

Eucharist—hosts will be consecrated on a table and

parishioners will come forward, one household group

at a time. Stand behind the black tape line; Father will

say “The Body of Christ”; respond ‘Amen’, then step

forward and pick up the host closest to you; take a

step or two away before consuming.

We are working hard to help get you back to Mass.

Thank you for your patience as we try things to see

what works for Holy Trinity.

Holy Trinity has re-opened for Masses

with limited numbers

The latest Government of Sask guidelines for Places of

Worship, are permitting more people in churches that can

accommodate them.

At Holy Trinity, we have seating for approximately 30

people, dependent on whether they come as couples,

singles or families. We are registering as many as

possible for weekend Masses and monitoring how many

helpers we need to provide the controls required for

distancing and cleaning.

Sat 5 pm Mass will be discontinued for July, during staff

vacation, as we cannot fill the positions needed Saturday

afternoons.

Requests for Sunday Mass Attendance are being co-

ordinated in the office. Email htrinity@sasktel.net or call

the parish office (306) 543-3838. Requests will be han-

dled during our regular office hours, which normally have

been Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3 pm. Please provide a

day-time phone number so we can call you back and con-

firm an attendance date. Questions about your health will

be asked at time of booking (see separate box). Those

registered are being given detailed instructions.

Weekday Mass Attendance - Generally weekday

Masses are Monday to Friday at 8:30 am. You do not

need to register in advance. Come to the north door; we

will record your name and phone number and ask the

health assessment questions. We are closed Thursday,

July 16 so no Mass that day.

Church Open for Prayer—We will continue to have the

church open for prayer from 9 am to 2 pm, Monday to

Friday, unless otherwise published in the bulletin.

We may need to close occasionally to ensure staff aren't

working too many hours to accommodate the required

protocols.

Church Pews—Our church pews are marked to for the

2 metre guidelines of social distancing. Our upholstered

pews cannot be sanitized. If you wish to bring your own

seat cushion or towel, please do so. The wooden pews

on the south side of the church do not have upholstery. If

you prefer to sit there, check with the person directing this.

Seating for Mass will be done from front to back. For exit-

ing after Mass, it will be reversed, from back to front.

These directions will be announced at the Mass.

Calling all young people! The Archdiocese of Regina Leadership Camp will NOT be able to run as usual this year. But, in its place we are running four day camps out at Glen Harbour. Two of the days (Aug. 23 & 25) are open to those ENTERING grades 7-9 in the Fall. And two of the days (August 24 & 26) will be dedicated to those ENTERING grades 10 – first year university in the Fall. Students may register for one or both of the days for their age group. The themes for the days are: “Mysteries, Miracles and Marvels” & “Who Dunnit?” Both days will be filled with fun, faith and fellowship while following appropriate health guidelines. Students will NOT stay overnight, but will be BUSSED to and from the camp (15 per bus) The cost per day (including bussing from Regina) is $60. Space is very limited! Priests Leaving the Diocese: Rev. Antony Padayatty: Fr. Antony ministered in the Archdiocese of Regina since 2009. He started as Associate Pastor in Estevan for a year. The following year he served in Whitewood, Stockholm & Broadview. After one year the parishes of Esterhazy, Bangor and Gerald were added as well until 2013. He served Redvers, Bellegarde and Storthoaks for the following two years and was most recently Administrator of the parishes of Gull Lake & Cabri since 2016. Fr. Anthony is returning to his religious community, the Heralds of Good News, in India. We thank Father Anthony for his faithful service and wish him God’s abundant blessings in the years ahead. We also wish to express our gratitude to all who will be assuming new responsibilities. They have responded to the needs of the archdiocese with generous spirits. We ask the people in parishes where changes are taking place to warmly welcome their new pastoral leaders into their midst. S4P 1T4 mcregina@sasktel.net July 1, 2020 Dear Friends Greetings! We thought it was timely to send you a greeting and to tell you how things have been going for us. More than three months have passed since we served our last meal in our dining room. Since then we have been serving bagged lunches at the door and have been working without the help of our volunteers – whom me miss! The numbers of persons coming for the lunches (men, women and children) has varied but most days we are serving between 80 and 110 persons. We have had the wonderful support of many of you, providing muffins and all the fixing for our lunch bags (meat, cheese, juice boxes, fruit, granola bars) which are much appreciated. While this is a limited form of hospitality, it is what our circumstances have permitted – and it has been gratefully received. We are able to respond to special requests as well – clothing, personal hygiene and other needed items, such as we have them. As we look forward to the next couple of months, this is what we are hoping to do. We will continue to serve lunches at the door through the month of July. We will be closed, as in years past, for the month of August, and the five of us will have the opportunity for some holiday time and to work on special projects in the house. In September we will resume with serving lunches at the door and make preparations for re-opening our dining room. This will likely take place toward the end of that month or the beginning of October. Following the required social distancing restrictions will mean that we will only be able to serve a limited number of persons at one time. For us, this likely means that we will only be able to seat between 18 and 25 persons at one time and will need to work with fewer volunteers, who are willing to wear face masks and try to follow the advised social distancing. Of course, the way we serve food will have to change and we will likely have to lengthen the time for our noon meal in order to accommodate the turnover of limited seating. We will also probably offer the alternative of carry-out to facilitate the limitations on space. How can we best serve in these current circumstances? We are listening to what the government health authority directs, but also what God seems to be asking and taking such steps as seem to be clear to us. Thank you for the support which you have given us in so many ways! We are very grateful for your friendship and for your prayers and miss our encounters with you. We do pray for you.
