Parish Life Director Report – May 2017

Holy Week - this year marked the first year that we held one Holy Thursday Mass, which occurred at

Sacred Heart. The spiritual energy that was present with a full church, great music and good liturgical

practices was precisely what we have been working towards in our long range pastoral planning.

Good Friday services were sufficient, with three being held, to accommodate the faithful. There will

be some shoring up of guidance with liturgical and offertory practices associated with Good Friday.

Easter Vigil – we received 12 into the Church at this mass.

First Communion – 57 first communicants – this was the first time we combined our Spanish speaking

Catholic community with the English speaking First Communion Mass. We utilized one reading in

Spanish and a hymn in Spanish. This appeared to be well received and will continue this practice in

the future.

Confirmation – 46 individuals were confirmed with Bishop Nickless.

Volunteer Appreciation – 155 in attendance and Wynn Touney was awarded the Volunteer of the Year

Award.

We have begun 2017-18 scheduling with St. Edmond. The pastoral staff will be working in June to

develop the parish schedule for 2017-18. All committees are encouraged to consider dates that they

may be considering for formation, social or liturgical activities in 2017-18 at their May and June

meetings.

Post reviews with pastoral staff and catechists will occur with Rock Climbers and EDGE this week.

These post reviews will assist in determining any changes in programming which may need to be

implemented for 2017-18.

Surpassed our Mary’s Meals almsgiving goal of $15,000 – currently were are at $15,400. Through the

work of volunteers other efforts are still under way (t-shirts, walk-a-thon, pasta dinner). This group’s

efforts have certainly raised awareness, most especially at St. Edmond as the school raised by itself

approximately 1/3 of the total $15,000!

Will be preparing to renew and commission new EMHCs in June.

Summer Celebration – set for Sunday, July 29th

, 2017. Exact time is to be determined. Met with Mark

Crimmins to look at logistics of the facility, should be able to accommodate all of our needs with in the

Rosedale Rapids itself. Preparation for the food and working out timing and logistics with the city

will go through Mark Crimmins. Liturgical preparation will be facilitated through an ad-hoc group

from Liturgy and Worship team, Jason Swedlund and Fr. Patrick Behm. Remaining logistics,

communications and marketing will occur through a small group formed off of Parish Life and

Stewardship. Hiedi Touney will work with the all to provide support and communication as needed

and appropriate.

Pastoral Staff Self Evaluations will begin in May.

Liturgical Music Ad-Hoc – set to meet on Tuesday, May 16th

– 6:30 p.m.

Childcare Ad-Hoc met in April – current results, 90 responses, of their survey are showing that

availability to childcare is not an obstacle to their participation in parish activities. The group

determined to re-word the survey and focus more on learning what young adults are interested in and

how to engage them. Their goal is 250 responses. They will meet on Thursday, May 18th

at noon.

On-line giving was fully implemented in April. Thus far we have had a favorable response with

several parishioners utilizing it for recurring giving, special envelopes and giving to the capital

campaign. The business office will continue to market this opportunity.

All work of the committee will be in line with Church teaching.

The Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson and Secretary shall be selected annually at the first meeting of the new term according to the process of majority of a quorum. Parish Council Representation: The Committee shall designate one member for representation to the Parish Council, it is the preference that the designated member be an officer as set forth in this Charter. Vacancies: In the event there is a vacancy with an unexpired term of more than six (6) months, the Chairperson, in conjunction with pastoral staff leadership, shall discern who will fill out the remaining term.
