Learning from Saint Teresa of Calcutta

This month, we celebrated the feast day of Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She was such an influ-ential woman who touched the lives of so many people… and continues to do so even now! She reminds us that we are all called to be the Hands of Christ’s Mercy in our communities

today.

We need not be in the streets of Calcutta to do good for our brothers and sisters in Christ. We can help our community here on Long Island through the 2018 Catholic Ministries Appeal.

Your gift to the Catholic Ministries Appeal will help more than 600,000 of our sisters and

brothers receive support and assistance from the funds shared through the CMA each year. It is rare that just one person or one parish could touch this many lives. The CMA brings us be-

yond the individual, the group and the parish and unites us as one Church of Long Island. Saint Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us!

The Catholic Ministries Appeal is Stewardship in Action!

To make a donation, you can also visit https://www.drvc.org/CMA

or call us at 516-678-5800 ext. 296. Thank You!

AAA Word From the Pastor

Religious education classes at HNJ officially began last Monday. If you have a child who has yet to register, please call Lorelei or Ryan at the Rectory Office between the hours of 9:30 AM through 4:00 PM. Congratulations to Diana Regino who is the 2018 recipient from Holy Name of Jesus Parish for the Diocesan Saint Agnes Medal of Service in appreciation for her many years of service at the Parish in a variety of ministries. Thank you, Diana, and as always, a sincere thank you to the many generous and dedicated parishioners who are currently serving and also to those who have served over the years for your generous service, assistance and ministry. Last weekend, Elaine Labrocca spoke at all the Masses inviting parishioners of all ages to con-sider getting involved in a ministry or two at HNJ. Sharing the gifts of your time and talent is a wonderful way to help build up the local Church. I believe God continues to speak to people and invite them to serve in the Church. Remember, "if today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts." This weekend, we have a the second annual collection to help fund the retirement facility of St. Pius X at Amityville. Thank you for your support. Thursday, September 20 is the 100th Anniversary of St. Padre Pio receiving the stigmata of Je-sus Christ. Please see the letter from Bishop Barres printed elsewhere in the bulletin along with the prayer to St. Padre Pio to help heal the wounds of survivors and the entire Church. Students wishing to attend Catholic High Schools on Long Island for ninth grade in the 2019-202 school year should register for the Entrance Exam by Wednesday, October 3, 2018. The Exam is scheduled for Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 8:30 AM at each of the nine high schools in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. There is a non-refundable fee of $60 due at registration. On Saturday, October 13, 2018 immediately after the 5:15 PM Mass, the FUNdraising Commit-tee at HNJ has scheduled an Oktoberfest. The Committee along with Deacon Chris (who will be cooking) promises an enjoyable evening along with a roast pork dinner and desserts. There will also be a small raffle at the dinner. Please see the announcement elsewhere in this bulletin for additional information. Elaine Labrocca, who has volunteered to head up the decorating com-mittee, asks for your help -- the committee need some cardboard canisters (like those from oat-meal, bread crumbs, raisins etc). If you have some such containers, please bring them with you next weekend or you can drop them at the Rectory Office. The month of October is Respect Life Month. Please mark your calendars consider participating

in the Stand Up For Life witness sponsored by the Long Island Coalition for Life on Sunday,

October 8 , 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Route

110.

FOCUS: As we prepare to hear God’s word may we

acknowledge our sinfulness and ask our loving

creator to forgive our sins and restore us to grace.

May the word of God fill us with new hope. In the first reading, Moses knows what is best for the people. He wishes them to be filled with the spirit of God. In the second reading, we are advised to store up spiritual

treasures that will never break down. In the Gospel,

Jesus proclaims the bold principle that whoever is not against us is for us. Published by Franciscan Media

Stewardship of Treasure

Regional Schools; $724

We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who strive to remind us that God is with us always to watch over and protect us.

Remember

Our

Deceased

Please pray for all the faithful departed, and for all the souls in purgatory who have no one to pray for them. May God grant them eternal rest.
