Feb. 15 ♥ Sixth Sunday in Ordinary

Time ♥ Mark 1:40-45 In today’s Gospel

we hear about a man who is suffering from

such a terrible illness that people are afraid to

touch him or even be close to him. The man begs

Jesus to help him. Jesus feels sorry for the man --

and then touches him and heals him. The man is

very happy and grateful and tells everyone what

has happened to him. Have you ever been left out or felt alone without

friends? How did that make you feel? Did anybody

show you kindness and compassion? Talk about what

they did and how that made you feel.

Have you ever tried to help a person who is lonely?

Talk about what you did and how it made you feel.

Parenting in the Digital Age – Tuesday, March 3rd at 7:00 pm in

Celebration Hall Parenting is hard. Parenting in the Digital Age is really hard.

With numerous social networks, ubiquitous access to anything,

anytime, anywhere, and almost non-stop stimulation

when “plugged in,” it’s no wonder kids (and the rest of us) are so

mesmerized by the new digital world. It’s also no wonder why

there is so much conflict around digital spaces and behaviors.

Come listen and discuss strategies for parenting in the Digital Age

with Professor Eric Anctil as we explore our new reality and how

best to not only survive the digital revolution, but to help our kids

thrive in it.

Eric Anctil is a professor of education at the University of Port-

land and the author of many books and articles on education. His

work broadly centers on K-20 education and the nexus of media,

technology, and the curriculum. A former middle and high school

teacher, Professor Anctil is a graduate of Central Catholic High

School and a native of Portland. He received a dual bachelor’s

degree from the University of Oregon, a master’s degree from

Portland State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of

Wisconsin-Madison. Professor Anctil has taught in higher educa-

tion since 2000 and lives in Irvington.

Intergenerational Faith Night: 6pm Dinner, 6:45-8pm Service Project Upcoming Dates: Jan 28, Feb 25 Location: Celebration Hall (cafeteria)

We are always looking for middle school and high school volunteers at our monthly Parish

Intergenerational Faith Nights. The service is usually helping Chelsea and Desi out with the younger

kiddos as they do different projects every month. This is a fun way to get some service hours done,

connect with your community, learn something about your faith, and get a free dinner (and dessert)!

To get involved just show up and check in with Chelsea. Parents are invited to stay and go to the

adult talk after dinner while our volunteers work in the Celebration Hall. Good for the whole family!

Monthly Teen-Led Mass at Holy Family Upcoming Date: Feb 15 Time: Sunday 10:30am Mass Time

We are constantly in need of liturgical ministers for our monthly Teen-Led Mass. We are the most

needy in two areas:

1. Confirmed teens to be Eucharistic ministers. If you haven’t been trained, we can train you!

2. High School/ middle school students to sing with the band. Contact Chelsea if you are interested!

Other areas where middle school and high school students can serve are: greeters, ushers, lectors,

gift bearers, and alter servers!

Please sign up ahead of time by visiting our website at: www.HolyFamilyPortland.org/Parish/Youth

and looking for the Youth Led Mass icon (like the one here).

Upcoming Youth Group Dates Did you know that if you are in high school you can volunteer with the middle school youth group?

It’s one of the most fun church volunteer opportunities out there! Just show up and check in with

Chelsea. Bring any forms you need signed if you have them!

My Independent Learning Project - My mission, alongside my mentor, Tammy Redsun, is to empower middle school girls my age to feel good about themselves through what they wear. I will be setting up a non-profit boutique at Lent's Middle School, a local middle school that is not as fortunate as we are. I am collecting middle school girl's clothing of any type; including shoes, and accessories. Anything from casual to dressy and everything in between is greatly appreciated. I'm looking for gently used, clean, age appropriate, and in variety of sizes from juniors to women's with youthful styles in mind. Collection bins and bags to take home and fill will be located in the entrance of the church and in the front of the school. Please bring back your donations the following Sunday or any time before March 1st. The event is March 13th and it will not be a success without your help and support!

Donations can include:

Swimsuits

Socks

Skirts

Coats/sweatshirts/

sweaters

Shoes/boots

Pants/sweatpants/jeans

Shorts

Scarves Also, if you have no clothing to offer the following will be accepted (new and unopened):

Mascara

Lip gloss/lipstick

Body mists/perfumes

Nail polish

Hair accessories

Feminine products

Lotions

Deodorant

We will be making grab bags for the girls to take home with using the above items. Any donations to make my boutique as success-ful as possible are greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Caitlin Ryan - 8th grade student at Holy Family
