MoDULE 600.The new Holophane modular luminaire was de-signed to play many roles. A highly effective out-door fixture. A basic lighting module with a widerange of application possibilities. And an attrac-tive building block which can be used to enhancethe architectural theme. It employs a precision optical system to assuremaximum uniformity o{ illumination. And physi-cally, it presents a clean profile completely devoidof unsightly hardware.

MODULE 600 can challenge thearchitecl's imagination,This attractive luminaire gives full scope toarchitectural ingenuity because of its outstandingoptical properties and unusual flexibility. Amongits many uses are the following three majorapplications:

For wall mounting:The luminaire can be used conventionally as aWallpack. Or, because of its modular form, as anarchitectural design element - spaced, grouped orarranged in counUess combinations. For slreel furniture:The luminaire is ideally suited for use as an ele-ment of street furniture. Its form and functioncombine with such utilitarian services as tele-phones, water fountains, and signage, to make anyenvironment more pleasant and attractive. For pole mounting:It can be used individually or in multiples to pro-vide illumination for parking lots, malls, streets, pathways and other areas.

The prismatic refractor, in com-bination with the specially-designed ANoLUME@reflector, distributes light uniformly and effi-ciently. This optical system effectively hides thelamp and controls brightness to provide extraor-dinary visual comfort. Whether the lamp is 175watt mercury or 400 rvatt metal halide. Thanks toprismatic sidewalls, subtle back lighting is sup-plied to soften contrast between luminaire andmounting surface.

Module 600 isadistinctive element of mall on poles. And distinctive mountedSinglyorin multiples.By using MoDULE 600 on poles, the architectur.altheme can be extended into parking areas andalong walkways. And because of their unusual flexibility, units may be mounted singly as well asin clusters.

and streetfurniture. The luminaire provides an ideal unifying ele-ment for architectural designs of street furniture.Applications combining illumination with utili-tarian services are endless. These include kiosks, informational and advertising signs, phone booths, fountains, litter baskets, mail boxes, planters andbenches.

Module600isa rugged luminairefortunnelsand underpa$ses. The luminaire is designed to serve the rough andtumble environrnent of tunnels and underpasses.Important are standard features such as the sturdycast aluminum housing, positive seal gasketing, positive action latching. And the single-pieceHolophane ENrunar-@ glass refractor which is vibra, tion and shock resistant. All these features con-

tribute to long, low maintenance life. The 400 watt metal halide and high pressuresodium capability makes possible higher light levelswith greater uniformity than could previously beachieved from a wall-mounted unit.Other important options and features are avail-able to increase the luminaire's flexibility for tunneland underpass illumination:Asymmetiic distribution by means of an inter, nal reflecting shield redirects light from the direc, tion of oncoming trafrc and distributes it onto theroadway. Driver glare is minimized.Suspension bracket to permit mounting fromoverhead structure.

lnternalshieldsprovide additional light controlfor any application.

Illumination from the sidewalls or top and bot-tom panels of the prismatic refractor can be re-directed by means of optional reflecting shields. This feature is of particular benefit in tunnels andunderpasses. Or, it may be used anywhere to limitunwanted light in adjacent areas, such as win-dows and neighboring buildings. trhield at right.tro shield. Shield al lop. Shield at letl.

Unique optical systerndistributes more light withgreater uniformity.A special optical system was produced in orderto achieve maximum illumination lvith minimumglare to accommodate the ]uminaire's range ofcapability - up to 400 watt high pressure sodiumA contoured reflector spreads the lamp imageover the entire surface of the prismatic refractor.This. combined with the action of the prismatic re-fractor, virtually eliminates disturbing hot spotsAlthough the luminaire presents a clean, uni-

form appearance by day, its single-piece prismaticrefractor is actually designed with three distinctareas. These optimize efflciency of illuminationand maximize visual comfort:First, splitting prisms on the inside surface ofthe refractor plus fluting on the outside, combineto direct more light where it's needed.Second, a rectangular prismatic panel across theface of the refractor obscures the lamp, splits thebeam, and projects its output uniformly acrossthe area to be illuminated. And third, the sidewalls of the refractor pro-vide a degree of backlighting, and also redirectlight energy which substantially adds to forwarddistribution.

Choiceof outputcontributesto design freedom.Choice of lumen outputs from 175 watt rnercuryto 400 watt high pressure sodium otrers lightingdesign flexibility not previously available to thearchitect.Whatever the consideration photometric, aes-thetic, or economic Moour-s 600 is available to.atis'v t hp app.rratior rpqLrrement.By using the 400 watt high pressure sodiumluminaire, greater mounting heights may be employed, or luminaires may be spaced larther apartand still provide tbe desired level of illuminationShown at right are three of several possible solu-tions MoDULE 600 offers to the following problem:A parking area, adjacent to a building, 75 feet deepand running the length of the building, is to beilluminated with an average maintained light levelof approximately 1.2 fc. Mounting height is 15 feet.
