Dear Parents and Carers, Parents Evening It was good to see so many of you at Parents Evenings last week, being part of your child’s learning at school is so important to their emotional and academic wellbeing. If you were unable to make it, please talk to your child’s class teacher and they will happily arrange an alternative time. I hope you found the meeting valuable; being able to see your child’s work in their books and to have time to discuss the full range of learning that is taking place. E-Safety Workshop On Wednesday Y5 and 6 took part in an e-safety workshop where they discussed what they use the internet for and how they can remain safe online. For further information visit: http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2016 and for games and activities which teach children about online safety visit https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/. Parent Info is a collaboration between CEOP and The Parent Zone. The Parent Zone was founded in 2005 and has a track record of providing information, support and advice to parents. In recent years, The Parent Zone’s work has focussed on the impact of digital technologies on families. They provide lots of useful information and resources. Sports Relief Today was Sports Relief and we decided as a school that we would like to help raise money towards this important event. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone, staff, children and parents for today’s fundraising efforts. I was so impressed to see everyone being so involved in helping to raise money for such a worthy cause by running, jogging or walking the mile at Telegraph Hill. It was a great day with lots of good sportsmanship being shown across the school. Book Fair Our book fair was very busy this week and children purchased over £300.00 worth of books. This means the school will also get commission to buy some lovely new books for our school library. Thank you for your continued support and I do hope the children enjoy reading their new books. Spring Music Concert Spring is in the air, the days are getting warmer and Easter will soon be here! We are celebrating the end of term with our annual music concert on Wednesday 23rd March at 5:30pm. These concerts truly highlight how music is at the heart of Hollydale with performances from children learning the flute, recorder, piano, brass and lots more. It’s always lovely to see so many children all at the different learning stages coming together to showcase their talents. Please can you support your child by allowing them to attend and participate. I look forward to seeing you there! Easter Bonnets and Easter Gardens We’ve had some colourful, inventive, ‘eggsciting’ Easter home learning gardens and bonnets being bought to school this week and plan to share them through a parade on Tuesday morning at 9:00am. We look forward to your attendance. The home school projects are designed to encompass a range of curriculum areas based around current themes. The activities are designed to support children to apply the range of skills learnt at school within the context of the topic. It would be good to see the number of children producing home school projects increasing. If you need any advice or materials do please speak to your child’s class teacher and we will see what we can do to help. Have a wonderful weekend. Young Writers Poetry Competition

Some of our KS2 children recently entered a emotions poetry competition organised by ‘Young Writers’, which aims to encourage young people to

engage in creative writing. The children wrote fantastic poems and Hollydale has had 79 poems

selected for publication in a book called Poetry Emotions– London Verses on 30th June 2016!

Congratulations to all of our promising writers. We are all extremely proud of their achievement and

Piano lessons

Next term one of our music teachers, Ms Alice Moon, will be offering your child the opportunity to

learn the piano at school. As a school we have heavily subsidised the costs of the lessons, to

enable all children who wish to learn to be given the opportunity. A letter was sent home this week to all children in Y2-6. Please return the slip to the school

office if you are interested in this fantastic opportunity.
