2020 One Book One NebraskaThe One Book One Nebraska program promotes a culture of reading and discussion in Nebraska by bringing the state together around a significant book by a Nebraska author. This program, now in its sixteenth year, is sponsored by the Nebraska Center for the Book, Humanities Nebraska, and the Nebraska Library Commission. The 2020 selection is Donald Stratton’s All the Gallant Men: an American Sailor’s Firsthand Account of Pearl Harbor. People across the state of Nebraska are encouraged to read this thought-provoking memoir by a USS Arizona survivor. At age 94 Stratton, from Red Cloud, shares his experiences as a young sailor who witnessed the 1941 attack and lived to tell his story despite several injuries. His book contains details of the world-changing December event that are not found in typical history books. Stratton’s book is available in the library. Watch for future program information in 2020.
