President’s Report… Bruce Lethborg

Hello fellow members, Not a lot has been happening to report on this month. The khanacross at Pakenham was cancelled due to rain, this is one of many khana events cancelled this year as there are only a couple of venues on hard surfaces, most are run on dirt/grass and it doesn’t take much rain to turn them to slush and mud. October means Bathurst and this year I was there with Phil, Kim and his wife Chantelle for the GTR and XU-1s on the mountain event to celebrate Peter Brock’s first win at the mountain in 1972 and see Holden kick arse for the 29th win at the mountain. Kim, Chantelle and Phil drove their LJ XU-1s to Bathurst; I drove Kim’s car with trailer in tow as insurance just in case. Unfortunately we had to use the trailer. Chantelle’s car broke a gear linkage at Glenrowan and we had to tow the car to Bathurst and after a search around Bathurst’s wreckers and part stores we found a replacement part for the massive cost of $5. We also arranged for a new part from Rare Spares to be express posted to the house we were staying at and then found out Aust Post does not guarantee next day delivery. The cars ran well for the rest of the time we were there and on the trip home. Phil had a small exhaust leak that was easily fixed. The event had some special guests attend at the dinners, and we were able to chat to Colin Bond, Ian Tate, Bob Morris and Bev Brock dropped in and sold a few copies of the latest book she put together about Peter. Get a copy, I did and it is a great read. There was an auction of Torana memorabilia at the main dinner on Saturday. There were very interesting items up for auction, from HDT draught to some very rare items that Leo Pruneau donated from his private collection. One fellow bought all three items of Leo’s with a total cost of $11,400. I managed to win a very early piece of Brock memorabilia, a framed one off copy of the very first piece of advertising Peter’s father Geoff did of the A30, Peter and the speed shop. Early Brock PR. The proceeds from the auction went to a charity for foster kids. There were around 140 GTR and XU-1 Torana’s and I was surprised at the colours of the cars, some I remember and others I didn’t even know existed. We were supposed to have done parade laps on both Saturday and Sunday at the track, but the V8 supercars organisers found an excuse each day to pull us from the event. Not happy Jan. On race day, we had the Torries parked at the race museum and we took a spot nearby to watch the race. After waiting in line for an hour for a coffee and ¾ hour for food and standing for about three hours watching the race, we decided to grab some things for lunch and some alcoholic beverages and head back to the house to watch the rest of the race. (Bathurst pics further on in mag...Ed) Next month we have our sprint at Sandown on Cup Day. We will need helpers, a few members have already contacted me, but we need more. If you are not competing please give us a hand. Call me on 0499272774. The AGM is next month and most of the committee are standing down, so we need some new blood on the committee. Please consider joining the committee it is not rocket science and doesn’t take up much time. If we don’t have a committee, you don’t have a club. Cheers Bruce

Vice-President’s Report… Frank Rogan

Hi Folks, Not that much has been happening so not much to report. The khanacross on the 16th was washed out days before the event was to run, I haven’t seen any results from the Bendigo VMC on the 22nd either. As I write this the AMC (Australian Motorkhana Championship) is being run in Ipswich Queensland and I haven’t heard if anyone from HSCCV is going up there. Coming, we have hopefully dry ground at Pakenham for Nissan’s Group 5 motorkhana on October 28. For the speedsters we have the Cup Day sprint at Sandown on November 6 – please join us and help the club…and for those of you using the club permit scheme definitely come on down and assist so that you can have your renewal signed off next year in accordance with the revised Club Constitution. If you’re not sure what all this means, then I suggest you call me and I will explain. PIARC has a sprint at the Island the weekend after the Melbourne Cup, being November 11, and this is supposed to be the last Group 5 speed round this year except November 18 which is the annual HAC interclub, a motorkhana held at arguably the most scenic motorsport venue in Victoria…with a huge craft market and food vendors set up on the day at Lardner Park just out of Warragul. I’ll leave you with some recent photos from out and about… See you sideways or at the meeting. Frank.

Treasurer’s Report… Tamara Dennett

Greetings Fellow Club Members, ANZ Balance: $5,631.70 ING Balance: $24,942.29 This week has been an eventful week for me at least, I had a timely reminder of how quickly car accidents can and do happen, regularly. I was driving home on Tuesday and minding my own business and ended up the first car of a three car accident where I was hit by a Honda Civic and Toyota Camry. We caused traffic chaos and it was in the road report an hour after I got home. The important part was there wasn’t any blood on the any of the occupants of the vehicles; the only passenger was taken to hospital with some heart irregularities. All three people involved would have been very sore for a couple of days, but importantly nothing seriously wrong The two of the three cars were towed away, all three ended up in Car Hospital for at least a week, my beloved Oscar in hospital for about a week, but the towbar saved him, new Bumper Bar, Tail Gate, Lock etc. Please think about the future of your club, there is a few positions up for grabs including the Treasurer role. The treasurer’s job on the committee is mainly writing cheques and banking, there is only really one busy time of year and that is at the beginning for renewals. If you want to know more about it just ask. I am more willing to help the new person take on this not that difficult role. See you all on the track or sideways or at the meeting Tamara

A note from the Editor... This month... We have pics from the club’s bi-annual dyno day event at AutoCure motorsport (thanks Mark) in Keysborough. A good turnout with old and new cars, race cars and street cars going on the rollers…. the winner again was Larry with his much modded LS1 powered VX Saloon car. Anything north of 300+kw at the rear wheels is not shabby! Thanks to Budge and mate Adam for the cooking of lunch on the BBQ , plus good to see some newish members front with their cars. A reminder to members who take video of their motorsport efforts and then post them up on YouTube please also post a link to these on the club’s Facebook page. That way ...all members can see that hot lap or great time! Tony Cott’s Sandown ‘Safari’ is a great example!

A sad note this month with the death of Prof. Sid Watkins...obit further on in this edition.

Supp Regs for two upcoming events are included in this edition. Note: The FFCC Secretary has changed address as of October 20 and the Supp Regs & Entry form on the website and here have been replaced with the new form. If your entry hasn't been posted, please mail to the new address: The Secretary FFCC, 1 Windermere Crescent, Mulgrave, Vic, 3170. Enjoy your motorsport...

Secretary's Report… Phil Slater

Well, the big news for me this month has been my trip to Bathurst with the XU1 owners group to celebrate the anniversary of Brocky’s first win in the Torana. With 150 of the best XU1s and GTRs from all over Australia, it was an event to remember. It included the Shannons Rally over some very challenging roads, nightly functions with the likes of Colin Bond, Ian Tate and Bob Morris, displays at Bathurst and lots of socializing. Unfortunately our parade laps were cancelled both days because of time constraints. No printable comment! The sight of 150 LC and LJ Toranas in one place was truly awesome and the atmosphere at the Showgrounds and the track was fantastic. I drove up and back in a convoy of XU1s that got looks and comments wherever we went or stopped including a massive cheer from the camping ground on the way in to Bathurst. The Shannon’s Rally was a fun event taking us on some interesting roads around Bathurst including the original Bathurst Circuit (before Mt Panorama). Some of the roads were great for spirited driving and some were pretty rough. I got serious air at one spot and shook the exhaust loose but was able to fix it. The speakers were great at the functions especially Bondy (see pic below...Ed) who was there every night and the food and company was not bad either. Other club members attending were Kim, Chantelle, Bruce, Justine and Amelia as well as my grandkids Baelan and Urijah. The kids loved the track and wanted to go back there when they got home. It’s a pity we missed out on the track time but we will be back for the 50th anniversary but I won’t be camping then as I will be seriously old.(Bathurst pics from Phil next page…Ed) If you want to see a large group of Toranas come to Sandown for the Historics on the 10th and 11th of November where they will be on display. If you want to display your own car then see me as I have a few tickets. I’ll also be at Sandown on Cup Day for our sprint event, hopefully with the rejuvenated CRX. Phil Slater

...HAC INTERCLUB

Date: Thu, Oct 11, 2012 at 9:05 PM Subject: 43rd Annual HAC Interclub Motorkhana - Sunday, November 18, 2012 To: John Rosengrave <[email protected]> Dear Club Secretary, Competition Secretary and Magazine Editor I would like to take this opportunity to invite your Club's members to the 2012 HAC Interclub Motorkhana to be held at Lardner Park, near Warragul in Gippsland. At the same time I would like to confirm the date as Sunday, November 18th. Early CAMS calendars had the event listed as November 25, and some clubs are still showing that date on their calendars, either in magazines or on web sites. If possible, could that listing be checked and revised if necessary, so that your members won't miss the event, now in it's 43rd annual running. Members can compete either individually or as members of a Club team, and there are classes for a variety of cars, as well as for Juniors, Ladies and Novice competitors. The spirit of the event is to have fun in a competitive environment, and the good grass surface at Lardner Park (slippery when wet!) should prove enjoyable. Adjacent to the venue is an excellent Country Craft Market, which always is popular with those not involved in the competition. A flyer for the event is attached, and Supp Regs will be emailed to most regular motorkhana com-petitors once they are approved by CAMS, or on request to [email protected] We would love to have your Club's members join us on November 18th at Lardner Park. Could you please forward this invitation to any members you think may be interested, or include it in your Club magazine or Calendar? Kind regards, John Rosengrave Secretary, Huntingdale Auto Club Inc. Ph: 0425 722 706
