Post Upgrade Steps

• 9.1.0 Specific Upgrade Steps• Check for any incremental licenses to be applied, for certain 9.1

features to be enabled. 8.x licenses are automatically upgraded to v9.

• Upgrade does not provide an option to enable TLS for the domain. Use Administrator UI to set this flag, if necessary.

• Importing Users and Groups from previous installation • The commands exportUsersAndGroups and

importUsersAndGroups can be used for this purpose. To import from 8.x domain –epc option must be set.

Upgrade Overview• Domain Metadata Upgrade and Server Install

• The upgrade of the domain metadata is handled as part of the installation wizard and occurs after the files have been copied to the install location.

• This step is mandatory as failing to upgrade the domain metadata will prevent one from starting the 9.1.0 domain.

• Application Services Upgrade• After the domain is upgraded and running, services requiring

upgrade can be upgraded through the Administrator tool. • All services can be upgraded through the upgrade service

wizard or through individual service actions.

• Informatica Developer and PowerCenter Clients• The Informatica clients is upgraded through a separate installer.• The latest client is required to utilize 9.1.0 functionality.

Upgraded Components• The following components require a metadata upgrade.

• Informatica Domain:• 8.x domain metadata must be upgraded to 9.1.0 metadata. • 9.0.1 domain metadata must be upgraded to 9.1.0 metadata.

• PowerCenter Services:• PowerCenter Repository service requires a metadata

upgrade if upgrade from any 8.x version. • PowerCenter 9.0.1 does not require an upgrade to

PowerCenter 9.1.0.• PowerCenter Repositories older than 8.5 require an additional

“Users and Groups” upgrade. This is the same step as introduced in 8.5.

• 8.x and 9.x Metadata Manager and Reporting services require an upgrade to 9.1.0 metadata.

2020

Installer Upgrade Overview

• The installer has 3 paths in 9.1.0:• Install 9.1.0 on a new machines and create a new 9.1.0 domain.

This is for first time installs and will create a brand new domain.• Install 9.1.0 on a new machine and join an existing 9.1.0 domain.

This will install new binaries but requires an 9.1.0 domain with at least 1 gateway node to be running to join.

• Upgrade a previous installed version to 9.1.0. This requires a previous install of PowerCenter 8.x or Informatica 9.x

• By default the upgrade component of the installer requires access to the previous installation of Informatica to perform an upgrade.

• A user can override the domain configuration information if they choose “Allow changes to hostname and port” option

Informatica 9.1.0 Upgrade Tips and Tricks

Area Description

UpdatesCheck with Informatica for updated Tips and Tricks and Gotchas. We will continue to evolve the Velocity best practices around Informatica 9x upgrades.

Project Planning Spending the additional time to incorporate true project management tasks. This will ultimately be worth its weight in gold.

I9 Pre-installerPrior to any installation or upgrade one should run the I9 pre-installer to confirm the environment is ready for the installation / domain upgrade.

RTMMake sure to export all RTM table information prior to upgrading the domain metadata. The upgrade process removes the RTM service from the domain since it is now incorporated into the Analyst Tool.

TLS Enablement

This is a new security option introduced in 9.1. Enables all inter-service communication involving DIS, MRS & Analyst Service, and client communications involving Developer & infacmd clients to be encrypted .

Area Description

Re-Index of Modeling Repository

After you re-index the modeling repository allow for 5 minutes to pass to allow for the reference table data will display inside of the analyst tool.

ParallelismIf you need to upgrade multiple objects at the same time this can be conducted only through the Actions drop down per service. (Make sure underlying DB server can handle this)

LDAP

When you upgrade, all users are imported into the domain. However, all users over 1000 will be dropped inreverse alphabetic order the next time the Service Manager synchronizes with the LDAP service directory.

Unix/LinuxFile Descriptors

On UNIX or Linux, verify that the operating system meets the file descriptor requirement. Informatica service processes can use a large number of files. Set the file descriptor limit per process to 4096 or higher. (Captured by I9PI)

Informatica 9.1.0 Upgrade Tips and Tricks

Area Description

DB2

If the domain configuration repository is in an IBM DB2 9.1 database, run the DB2 reorgchk command to optimizedatabase operations. The reorgchk command generates the database statistics used by the DB2 optimizer in queries and updates. Use the following command:REORGCHK UPDATE STATISTICS on SCHEMA SchemaName

HTTPS DomainMigrations

Before starting upgrade rename the custom keystore file to PC_DEFAULT.keystore (on 8.x), or Default.keystore (on 9.0.1). Keystore files are located in server/tomcat/conf directory in current installation.

Schema Break Out

Domain metadata cannot reside in the same DB account as the metadata for a Model Repository Service. The domain schema must have create view permissions (Oracle)

Data Quality After upgrading the Data Integration Service, additional Country and Geocode pre-load lists must be configured for Address Validation (in Content Management Service)

Profiling Warehouse Although DIS Profiling Warehouse upgrade is optional for Data Services customers, it is REQUIRED by Data Quality customers. If the Data Integration Service is upgraded but not the Profiling Warehouse, then Data Quality functionality will not function correctly. Users will still be able to run previews and SQL endpoints, but will not be able to run profiles, scorecards or deployed DQ mappings.

Netezza Upgrades For those customers integrated with Netezza there will be additional steps to register the plug ins and running of the pmrepcommand to upgrade Netezza to a relational connection.

Informatica 9.1.0 Upgrade Tips and TricksArea DescriptionOracle Lite Client For clients using Oracle the Oracle Lite Client does not provide

enough for Informatica to make all of the needed connections to the database. We need to full client install.

811 Upgrade with DA As of base install there is a issue with having the user Administrator in an a group. This prevents deployment of DA. You will need to remove the Administrator from all groups except Everyone.

Silent Installer (Client) For customers with the need to install high number of clients inside of their environment. We recommend utilizing the silent installer to maximize efficiency.

Silent Installer (Server) For customers with the need to install / upgrade a high number of servers inside of their environment. We recommend utilizing the silent installer to maximize efficiency.

User / Group Migrations with 861 Upgrades (9.1.0 Only)

Fresh installs for parallel build outs of the environments will not result in the users / groups existing in the new environment. Export out the users and groups from the existing domain and import them into the new domain prior to any application service upgrade.
