special program optionsHofstra University offers several special programs to enhance a student’s career preparation. These programs
commonly combine a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a master’s degree in business. Hofstra students
can earn a combined B.B.A./M.S. in areas such as accounting, entrepreneurship, human resources management,
marketing, and taxation. In addition, students looking to venture into the medical field may enroll in the Physician
Assistant Studies Program.
study abroadAn international experience benefits students by offering a global outlook that emphasizes the ties among nations and
cultures. In addition, it enhances career preparation by teaching valuable cross-cultural and workplace skills that are
critical to employers in building their work force. Study abroad can be fun and educational. Much of the experience
comes from meeting the challenges of, and learning to adapt to, a foreign environment. Living and learning in
another country fosters patience, develops maturity and self-confidence, and enhances our understanding of today’s
complex world. A carefully chosen overseas study program can contribute not only to academic and personal growth,
but also to career goals.
At Hofstra University, we pride ourselves on the diverse selection of study abroad programs available. Whether
students choose to study abroad to complement their foreign language course work, experience a different culture, or
expand their knowledge of a specific concentration, they can find a program to suit their needs. Hofstra offers various
program lengths, from one semester to a full year, or during the winter or summer sessions. For more information
about study abroad opportunities, please visit hofstra.edu/studyabroad.
center for civic engagementWith a strong belief that informed and involved students
are more likely to participate in the democratic process,
Hofstra University formed the Center for Civic
Engagement. The center was founded, in part, so that
students understand the necessity of citizen involvement
if democracy is to continue to move forward. Among
the principles the center stresses are freedom of speech
and expression, respect for others, appreciation for
diverse persons and viewpoints, the ethics of public
issues, personal and group empowerment, social and
economic equality, and preservation of the environment.
For more information about the center, please visit
hofstra.edu/cce.
the career centerThe Career Center presents a wide variety of off-campus
employment options to Hofstra students. Its mission
is to help students and recent graduates find career
opportunities by serving as a facilitator for them to
make connections beyond their Hofstra experience. The
Career Center provides students with internship and job
listings, resume and interview workshops, as well as an
online database containing thousands of jobs. These
opportunities can be a critical component for students.
For more information about The Career Center, please
visit hofstra.edu/career.
discovery programThe Hofstra Discovery Program is optional and open to
all incoming first-year students. This interactive
program is for individuals who want to be engaged in
service-learning, adventure and discovery. Students
choose one of two paths, and work on service projects in
small groups led by upper-class student leaders
who facilitate the experiences and serve as resources.
Students live together in order to encourage group
interaction, programming and discussion. For
more information about the program, please visit
hofstra.edu/discovery.
office of student leadership and activitiesThe Office of Student Leadership and Activities is
designed to enhance the co-curricular life of the
Hofstra community and help students become
more involved with campus events. It encourages
students to participate in some of the University’s
170 clubs and organizations, and many campus
events. We strive to see that each and every
student gets the most out of the college
experience. For more information about this
office, please visit hofstra.edu/studentactivities.
office of multicultural & international student programsThe Office of Multicultural & International Student
Programs contributes to the development of an inclusive,
multicultural, and globally aware campus community.
It supports, celebrates, and guides the international
and multicultural student communities at Hofstra as
they strive to build a vibrant campus environment. In
addition, it provides educational programs for the larger
campus community on a variety of cultural, global, and
social justice issues in an effort to support the academic
mission of the University and to explore and appreciate
the full range of diversity within the Hofstra community.

AN INNOVATIVE PROGRAM TAILORED FOR OUR MOST ACADEMICALLY ACCOMPLISHED STUDENTS
We offer talented, high-achieving students a unique educational experience in a close-knit community, where
they not only enjoy exchanging ideas and insights with fellow achievers, but also interact with professors who
continually challenge and inspire them.
Most incoming Honors College students rank among the top 10 percent of their high school graduating classes
and belong to various honor societies. They also enjoy numerous interests and extracurricular activities and are
committed to service in their communities.
Honors College students pursue a focused, multidisciplinary fi rst-year program, with courses designed to explore
the connections between disciplines and taught by a team of the University’s most eminent faculty. Students
spend the majority of their time in small discussion groups (20 students) with faculty, while twice weekly
common meetings with fellow fi rst-year Honors College students allow the issues that join these courses to be
explored by a specialist.
After the initial year, Honors College students can earn honors credit in a broad range of courses in all
undergraduate degree programs, as they concentrate on their majors and minors. They also have the option to
write an honors thesis as seniors.
As they strive toward both a bachelor’s degree and Honors College Graduate designation, Honors College
students work with carefully chosen faculty mentors, who answer their questions and provide academic
advisement.
In addition, Honors College offers an optimal living and learning setting for its students. Approximately half of
the entering Honors College students live in an honors-designated residence hall.

earn a B.A. and J.D., one year sooner
than you would expect
Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
and Hofstra Law School offer an accelerated,
six-year B.A./J.D. program – one that few other
universities in the New York City area offer. Hofstra’s
“3+3” program allows students to complete requirements for
both the Bachelor of Arts and the Juris Doctor in just six years.
Students can choose from among 45 majors available through
Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. For a full listing of
majors available to LEAP students, please visit hofstra.edu/leap.
Hofstra’s Legal Education Accelerated Program (LEAP) is looking for
candidates of very high academic caliber, generally from among students who
are in the top 15 percent of their high school graduating class and who have a
combined SAT score of at least 1220 (in addition to the required essay).
Admission to Hofstra Law School is predicated on LEAP students earning a total of 95
semester hours (94 of them in liberal arts), meeting all requirements for the Bachelor of Arts
degree, achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.4 in course work toward the B.A., and achieving an LSAT
score in junior year that is no lower than the median LSAT score for the prior year’s full-time entering
class at Hofstra Law School. Matriculation at Hofstra Law School takes place at the end of junior year;
the B.A. is then granted after satisfactory completion of the first 29 semester hours of law school course
work. Often, LEAP students are recipients of merit-based undergraduate scholarships that can be
applied to their law school tuition during the fourth year of LEAP.
When hiring, the best law firms look for candidates with a strong liberal arts background. That’s
because a liberal arts education emphasizes critical thinking and reading skills, as well as strong
writing ability.
We encourage students who are particularly eager to begin their professional careers to join us for this
challenging intellectual experience.
“ We are committed to providing pre-law students with a strong liberal arts education. This prepares them for the rigors of law school by developing valuable critical thinking and reading skills, as well as superior writing ability.”
— Rebecca CurryAssistant Professor of Political ScienceDirector, LEAP
