DOOR PRIZES FOR 2014 COLORADO SPRINGS REUNION

  • Fellow Hofers and Crafters – Time is growing shorter before we will be together for the 2014 HRA Reunion in Colorado Springs. You still have time to make a donation to the 2014 HRA Reunion Door Prize Program. In the past several years, our Auction and Door Prize Program has been very popular. Jerry Middendorf and Phil Murray will act as co-chairmen of the Door Prize Committee. The HRA is loaded with talented members, and door prizes will again add that little extra touch to make the 2014 reunion one of the most memorable to date. We’re looking for donations such as craft items, art work, books, gizmos, etc., that can be presented as door prizes and/or for a live or silent auction. At previous reunions, items donated included crochet doilies, wood carvings, hand crafted quilts, embroidered table runners, dirndls, oil paintings, puzzles, decorated Emu egg, handmade jewelry, German bier mugs, German/Austrian music CDs, collector plates and any other items. Let your imagination be the only limitation as to what you bring. To donate, merely bring the item(s) with you to Colorado Springs, however, please give Jerry Middendorf and/or Phil Murray, a heads-up, via email, a telephone call, or snail mail, ahead of time letting them know what you have planned to bring as a donation. The committee encourages wide spread participation in the 2014 door prize initiative. If you're unable to be with us in Colorado Springs and would like to donate an item, please do not snail mail the donated item to our HRA Adjutant or Door Prize Committee Members. In a situation when you are unable to attend the reunion and still want to donate an item, attempt to contact someone near you that will be driving to Colorado Springs and perhaps they could transport your donated item for you. If that is unsuccessful, contact Jerry Middendorf or Phil Murray to provide assistance in getting the donated item to the reunion. Jerry Middendorf 405 Forehand Court Bel Air, Maryland 21015 Phone – (410) 776-3637 [email protected] Phil Murray 755 Ridge Way Fallbrook, California 92082-2679 Phone – (760) 723-1726 [email protected]

THANK YOU FROM WIDOW GALE PARTRICH Thank You for your help in obtaining a Full Honor Guard at Bill's Memorial

Service on August 1, 2014 in Manistee, Michigan.

Dear friends – For those of you who called or e-mailed Wright-Paterson

AFB requesting that personnel be found to come for a full honor guard for

Bill's memorial service, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The weather in Michigan is always unpredictable. However, yesterday was

a glorious Michigan summer day. Oak Grove Cemetery is certainly one of

the most beautiful in he country, with high towering trees as a natural

canopy for the suns rays. Sixty chairs were set up outside and more stood.

The backdrop did seem to be an outdoor cathedral.

A full honor guard came to Manistee from Wright-Patterson AFB and they

did a splendid job carrying out their duties. In addition, a military chaplain,

a short reading from the bible, three retired military officers spoke, and

because Bill was a Mason, there was a short Masonic Committal Service.

    All took about 40-45 minutes.

Today, August 2nd, we’re having celebration of Bill's life at his hunting club

cabin. This has been a very special time for me. Gale (Colorado Springs)

DOOR PRIZES FOR 2014 COLORADO SPRINGS REUNION Fellow Hofers and Crafters – Time is growing short before we will be together for the 2014 HRA Reunion in Colorado Springs. FLYBY LIST: NORMAN D. PARROW – PASSED AWAY 8/17/2014

Norm was never a member of the HRA and was with the 6915th, Hof ’69.

Thanks to Claude Proctor for letting us know about Norm’s passing.

Norman David Parrow, 72, a resident of Brandon, MS began his heavenly journey on

Sunday, August 17, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, August 20,

2014 at the Ott & Lee Chapel in Brandon. The family will have private graveside services

with military honors at Brandon Memorial Gardens where he will be put to rest beside his

    beloved son, Michael.

Norm was born in Stafford Springs, CT, but loved the South! He

was preceded in death by his parents, George and Violet Parrow; his two brothers, Herbert

and Alan Parrow; and his first born son, Michael David Parrow.

 His survivors include

his wife of 49 years, Frankie and his son, Chris of whom he was so very proud. Chris and

his wife, Dawn, gave him his most treasured gifts, Landon David and Gavin Charles

Parrow. His heart burst with pride when it came to his grandsons. He thought Chris and

Dawn were the best parents ever. He was so proud of his son’s honesty and work ethic.

    mailto:[email protected]:[email protected]

  • There are no words to describe his love for his family.

 Other family are his father-in-

law, Howard Renforth (Barbara); his sister-in-law, Pam Ivey (Dennis) and his two nephews,

Jason and Matt Alexander along with their families all of Jacksonville, FL. An ‘almost’

sister and forever friend of the family, Judy Thayer, of Stafford Springs, CT.

 Norm

attended Marianopolis Prepatory School in CT and St. Michael’s University in VT. He

entered the US Air Force during the Vietnam War serving in the Security Service. He met

and married, Frankie, during his first tour of duty in London, England. Together, they

traveled the world. He left the USAF after the Vietnam Era was over as a Major.

 He then

entered the auto business in which he continued until his retirement due to health issues.

Some of you may have known him as a neighbor, a boss, a fellow fisherman, or a car

dealer telling you to come on down to the hill in south Jackson! His most important titles

were that of a friend, Dad and Normie.

Norm’s family would like to thank the health

professionals for their care and compassion, especially Dr. R. Guynes. Thanks to all for

    your thoughts and prayers.

Norm’s favorite expression, “I wasn’t born in the South, but

I got here as fast as I could.” Smile, be happy, make every day count.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH: From HRA Adjutant Mel Hamill

Recently a friend sent me this email address http://www.germany.info/. I hope you find it

as enlightening as I do. The web site is heavy layered and leads to many different subject

matters. For those who wish to read it in German, click on the word Deutsch in the upper

left top row of the site menu. I have yet to explore the web site in depth. One item I would

like to point out is also on the same line, Newsletter. When opened there is a small block

labeled “NEWSLETTER”. The top archived item “The Week in Germany – Archive” are top

news articles for the week. Off to the left is a white square block that also works as a

Menu. One that might interest all HRA Members is “Visa, Passport & Legal”. I believe the

web site is updated by the German Embassy, Washington, DC. Hope you enjoy and I will

    see you in Colorado Springs.

    FLYBY LIST: DAVID WEAVER, 602 AC&W, Hof ’63-66, 5/31/38 to 5/25/14

Mel Hamill received notification from Darlene Weaver, widow of David that

he had passed away on May 25, 2014. Obit was in San Antonio newspaper.

B2 Spirit Bomber Manager, N5VOA, and American Patriot Dies. David Woodward Weaver,

75, died on May 25, after a valiant seven-year battle against colon cancer. David was the

son of Estelle Dunn Weaver Ownbey and Samuel Harvil Weaver, both deceased. He was

born in the small Arkansas town of Vilonia on May 31, 1938. During his early childhood in

Los Angeles, David became fascinated with the mighty bombers that roared overhead on

their long journeys to the Pacific War. In 1944, when David was six, the family returned to

Arkansas. David joined ARRL, because ham operators had done so much in co-ordination

of rescue efforts. He has been a member for over half of its 100-year history, with a current

call of N5VOA. After high school (NLRHS, Class of 1956), David joined the USAF. He

served for nearly eleven years. Later, he would join the USAR as a WO, with a specialty in

weapons systems. David went to work as a civilian at Kelly AFB in 1967. He slowly worked

    mailto:[email protected]:[email protected]:[email protected]

  • his way up through different areas of the base while pursuing a BS at Southwest Texas

State University. He did this while lovingly nurturing a family that grew to include seven

children. Then the black operation of launching the B2 Spirit Bomber, the pinnacle of his

career, was handed to him. He helped refine the rotary launcher of atomic weapons on the

bomber, and kept the focus on the safety of its crew and the success of its mission. He

retired as one of the most honored CS employees at Kelly, and certainly one of its highest

ranking. In his career he rose an astonishing eleven grades, all done with devotion to the

mottoes of the two branches of military service he chose: Aim High, and Hanc

Defendemus (This We Shall Defend). David was a man of unimpeachable honor and

integrity. He valued truth, served justice, and honored his country with over 37 years of

active service. His first priority as a warrior was the safety and security of the USA, which

he loved loudly and fiercely. He respected the men he commanded. He was a section

Director for MUFON. He contributed to reports and sightings, bringing his vast technical

background to bear on the experiences of people involved in abductions. David was

predeceased by his parents and by a grandson, Joseph R. LaCourse III. He is survived by

    his beloved wife Darlene; sons: Rene (Ken); David II; Michael (Norma); and Mark (Jessica);

daughters: Kim LaCourse-Janacki; Janine Weaver; and Honey Richardson (Alan). Stepson

is Cory Neal. Grandchildren are Michael Weaver, Stephanie Craig, Rhianna Weaver, Mark

    Anthony Weaver, Dristan Weaver, Cale Austin Weaver, Jamie Hernandez (Enrique);

    Jeramie LaCourse (Jessica); Noel Perez (Adrian); Nick Weaver (Jessica); Jennifer Moreno;

Nick Moreno; Step-grandchildren are Collin Neal and Sloane Neal; sister, Jane Workman

(Tom); niece, Mary (Butch) of Waldron, Arkansas; nephew, John of Dallas, Texas. David is

also survived by many great-grandchildren whom he adored.

DOOR PRIZES FOR 2014 COLORADO SPRINGS REUNION

    http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/colorado-springs-co/80903/october-weather/327351

  • Fellow Hofers and Crafters – Less than a month before we will be together for the 2014 HRA Reunion in Colorado Springs. • Time to think about locations for Group Dinners in Colorado Springs slated for Tuesday evening, 10/7/2014. Whomever you choose for your Group Leader for these Group Dinners, it is time to think about where your group would like to go, number in group, and type of restaurant. There are quite a few restaurants in close vicinity to the Hotel Elegante. Jim Riggin has made arrangements with Texas T-Bone Steakhouse for the AC&W Group Dinner. Some other restaurants for groups to consider for their Group Dinners are Flatiron American Bar & Grill, Uwe’s German Restaurant, and some Microbreweries.

PATROCINIO 'PAT' ALDAZ, a retired United States Air Force (USAF) Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO), GTE Training Manager and Lewisville High School teacher left us to be with his Heavenly Father on September 8th, 2014. He was 80 years old. Pat lived a life of service to others and set the example of personal discipline, hard work and excellence. He was born in 1934 in Fort Stanton, New Mexico to Epifanio "Barney" Aldaz and Guadalupe Zamora and grew up on the Torres Ranch in Lincoln County, New Mexico with eight other brothers and sisters. During his early years, he learned to play the guitar and performed for local school dances in Lincoln. In 1953, he married his first wife, Charmaine Ruth Niccum and joined the United States Air Force. They had two children and traveled the world with Pat's USAF career. Pat served with distinction as a Russian linguist

  • in the United States Air Force Security Service, including assignments to Bremerhaven, Germany; Hof Air Station, Germany; Peshawar Air Base, Pakistan and Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas. He retired with 20 years of military service in 1973. Pat then accepted a position with General Telephone and Electronics Corporation (GTE - later Verizon) as a training instructor and manager. During this period, Pat directed many facets of employee training, primarily in the area of leadership and management. In 1978, he married his second wife Leah Alice Vaughan, adopted two sons and eventually relocated to Flower Mound, Texas. After many achievements, Pat completed his second 20-year career and retired from GTE in 1993. Not yet content to lay down his mantle, he then signed on with the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) as a high school Spanish teacher. During his tenure at the LISD, Pat not only taught Spanish, but also used the classroom to bring life lessons to his many students. He believed in personal responsibility, strong character and values - and was a mentor to many future leaders. He was an avid golf enthusiast, winning many trophies during his lifetime and enjoyed fishing and oil painting. Pat retired for the third time from his Lewisville teaching position in 2011 - completing 58-plus years of tireless labor. He then relocated to San Antonio, Texas, where he lived until his death. Pat was a former member of the San Angelo Southside Lions Club #1195 where he served as President. He was also a graduate of Howard Payne University, Brownwood, Texas with a Master's Degree in History and Spanish.
