The Rs 1,500 crore company formerly Hindustan Latex Ltd. changed its name in 2009 to more effectively communicate its scope of activity. It is a leader in contraceptives and makes a range of products like hospital products, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, personal hygiene products and diagnostic kits. HLLL also offers services like infrastructure development, procurement consultancy and facility management. Its subsidiary, HLL Infratech Services (HITES), has tied up with Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) to build a cancer hospital in Mumbai. The hospital being set up at a cost of Rs 350 crore funded by TMC and executed by HITES. It will be ready in 30 months and have India’s first Hadron Beam facility. It has seven manufacturing facilities -- two in Thiruvananthapuram, two in Kochi and one each in Belgaum, Gurgaon and Indore. Speaking to this correspondent, Dr. M. Ayyappan, CMD of the Thiruvananthapuram-headquartered HLL Lifecare, said, “We are the only contraceptive company in the world capable of offering a huge range of contraceptive products.” Further, he said a detailed Vision 2020 plan prepared by Ernst & Young is currently being implemented. “This plan envisages taking us to a Rs 10,000 crore turnover by 2020 by focusing on core business and also diversifying into other related fields in Healthcare delivery. The plans will be funded by internal accruals.” Other than HITES, HLLL’s subsidiary, HLL Biotech is setting up a facility to make vaccines at Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu. The Rs 594 crore project with an annual capacity of 585 million doses, will supply the Universal Immunisation Programme of India, Mr. Ayyappan said. In Chengalpattu, a Medipark - an industrial infrastructure park for the promotion of medical equipment which can house 30-35 facilities is planned and also on the anvil is a facility to make auto disable syringes (ADS). HLLL’s Lifespring Hospitals Chain in Hyderabad offers cost effective care and was set up as an equal joint venture with Acumen Fund Inc of USA. Each of the 12 hospitals has 20 beds and a general ward. HLLL recently acquired Goa Antibiotics which makes Ayurvedic and Homeopathic products and runs a chain of 24x7 retail pharmacy stores in Goa. HLL Lifecare ties up for hospital in Mumbai, plans aggressive diversification

HLL Lifecare (HLLL) a public sector unit under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has aggressive plans toexpand its business operations.
