Challenge,… • One of the biggest challenges of 21st century is to
understand phenomenon of urban agglomeration. Most of the 20th century’s concept and visions about cities are being questioned. New approaches need to be invented; other actions/methods needs to be incorporated in the existing work methods. It is essential to search for new techniques to deal with large urban agglomeration and application of GIS and Remote sensing technique at the various stages of planning, implementation and monitoring of the urban projects.

Need to Focus on Urban Health
The urban population in India is expected to increase to more than 550 million by 2030
Currently, a sizable proportion of the population in most Indian cities lives in slum areas
The increasing slum population is seen an indication of worsening living conditions and increasing poverty in Indian cities
The increasing concentration of the population in slums and urban poverty have drawn a strong interest in urban health in general, and the health of slum dwellers and the urban poor in particular

In every city there are many more slum households than poor households.
Education System
Is reasonably good for the top 20%
But it is abysmal for the rest
o 1 in 4 teachers is absent in government primary schools
o Hence, 54% of children in urban India are in private schools.
Solution: Education Vouchers

What to do?
• emphasize the environment, since a rise in CO2 emissions can cause an increase in temperature, entailing CLIMATE
CHANGE, SEA LEVEL RISE, STORMS AND CYCLONS, MASSIVE LOSSES IN
VEGETATION AND extinction of SPECIES.
• infrastructure renewal by transforming urban centers into efficient, sustainable cities using integrated water system, green economy, reuse and smart grid infrastructure and fast urban transportation systems

India’s Future,…. • "We no longer discuss the future of
India. We say the future is India" said the Indian Commerce and Industry Minister at the conference organized by the US-India Business Council in 2004. He predicted that India would certainly have achieved 100 % literacy, become a developed country, enjoy the same fundamentals as the United States by 2030.
• INDIA IS DEVELOPING IN ALL THE FIELDS LIKE TECHNOLOGY, SPACE RESEARCH, MEDICAL, SPORTS,
EDUCATION, ETC.
