THE BEGINNINGS

• In 1929 Bessie Smith released the song St Louis Blues which is one of the earliest examples of a music videos however it was only shown in theatres. However now we are able to access a music videos even on hand held devices like your phone showing how far technology has come.

TELEVISED MUSIC

• Tony Bennett - Strangers in Paradise was released in 1956. The music video was filmed in the famous Hyde Park in London and it was aired on Uk and US. This is the very first example of a televised music video which we now know would lead to the creations of channels such as MTV and 4 music.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC VIDEO

• In 1964 the Beatles released the famous song ‘A Hard Days Night’ , this would become crucial in the development of the music video industry as it was the first video where the artists were pictured playing their instruments, this remains a popular style in modern day videos.

MTV

• In 1981 we saw the release of MTV with the first song to be aired on this channel being ‘Video Killed the Radio Star” This music video features high budget techniques for it’s time and revolutionised the music video industry.

STORYLINE MUSIC VIDEO’S

• Michael Jacksons ‘Thriller’ was released in 1982 and pioneered the storyline type of music video, a video with a plot. Now often storyline music videos are still popular.

YOUTUBE

• In 2005 the release of youtube would change the music video industry forever. It allows us to watch a music video anywhere and anytime which is a big difference compared to only viewing a music video in a theatre.

MOST VIEWED MUSIC VIDEO

• On July 15th 2012 the Korean rapper Psy released the music video ‘Gangnam Style’ and become the most watched music video ever with over 2.2 billion hits.
