MEME (noun \ˈmēm\) - an idea, behaviour, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture

Who first used the word “meme”?

Meme is a term coined by RICHARD DAWKINS.

English evolutionary biologist, author and Professor at Oxford University

The term ‘Meme’ and its concept was first USED and DEFINED by Richard Dawkins in his book "The Selfish Gene," published in 1976.

Defined the meme as “a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation and replication”.

Used the concept of memes for discussion of evolutionary principles in explaining the spread of ideas and cultural phenomena.
