Course ObjectiveHistory of Architecture 1 guides the students to the understanding of the beginnings and evolution of architecture and how these developments built upon the previous systems of architectural design and construction and subsequently influenced the next, eventually affecting our architecture today. At the end of the term, the students are expected to be able to:
a. have an awareness of architecture as a manifestation of history, society, culture and civilization
b. understand the development of architecture as manifested in the built form from basic pre-historic structures to more complex buildings and early urban settlements
c. distinguish and identify the characteristics of the specific periods of architecture through their respective plans, elevations, sections, ornamentations, materials, structural systems, design and construction details, etc.
d. critique on the interrelation between each period of architecture and how it influenced the subsequent period and ultimately, contemporary architecture.
For Reporters• The student will then present for approximately 45 minutes. A copy of
the presentation must be submitted to the teacher. Minimum number of slides is 40. • The presenter must report in an in depth and engaging manner
demonstrating an essential understanding of the topic at hand. Students are encouraged to ask questions after the presentation.
