On March 4, 1973, Nakayama Race Track (Chiba Prefecture) was filled with extraordinary excitement. The audience was paying attention to one horse only; Haiseiko, who had won six out of six races by over seven lengths at the local race track in Ohoi. He made his debut with the Japan Racing Association this day at Nakayama and approximately 130,000 people rushed to the stadium to see him. As everyone expect-ed, he won the race. He followed this race with three consecutive victories including the Satsukisho Stakes, one of the Triple Crown races.

After his tenth consecutive victory Haiseiko was dubbed a “Monster” and was now at the height of his popularity. Two elements contributed to his popularity: one was that his father was not from a highly valued or distinguished thoroughbred bloodline, and the other was that he came from a minor local race track. In other words, the fact that a local horse could become successful in a mainstream competition full of elite horses, was a dream come true for ordinary people.

Since hiragana is formed of curved lines, it is said that these are feminine characters. It is the basic script that Japanese people learn first. There are 46 basic characters plus 25 characters for which two-dots or a little circle is added to some of the basic characters.
